- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2002I have used the techniques of mind mapping for almost three decades to help me organize my thoughts, explore complex issues or simply map a course of action. I have found them to be a useful, helpful and insightful.
I recently purchase a software program which enables me to bring my techniques to the digital age. As I started to work with the program, I discovered it did not readily adapt my style; so this is the book I selected to teach the old dog - me - some new tricks. I did not need to be convinced of the technique's utility; I really did not need the review of the literature. After years of successful use, I was not about to abandon the technique.
However, there was a lot I could learn and the book presented those lessons in a clear, highly structured and easy-to-absorb fashion.
After a few hours, I was preparing my maps with my new software as quickly as I previously had with my pad and pencil. Only now, they are colorful, illustrated and more conducive to creative thoughts.
For me, this book was worth its cost.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2017Great book. Took a little while for me to fully understand the concept. Making the Mind Maps are so much fun! My mind loves it. It is like Play Time for the mind. It is sometimes hard for the hand making the Mind Map to keep up with the mind. I sometimes Mind Map without markers, pen or paper when working on a project or making a decision. Everything is already in the mind, this just helps organize and makes more accessible.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2005This book presents "Radiant Thinking" and "Mind Maps" - a new concept of problem-solving, note-making and organizing thoughts.
Radiant Thinking (from "to radiate", meaning "to spread or move in directions, or from a given centre") refers to associative thought processes that proceed from or connect to a central point. The other meaning of "radiant" are also relevant: "shining brightly", "the look of bright eyes beaming with joy and hope", and "the focal point of a meteoric shower" - similar to the "burst of thought".
The Mind Map is the external expression of Radiant Thinking. A Mind Map always radiates from a central image. Every word and image becomes in itself a subcentre of association, the whole preceding in potentially infinite chain of branching patterns away from or toward the common centre. Although the Mind Map is drawn on a two-dimensional page it represents a multi-dimensional reality, encompassing space, time and colour.
The first part of this book describes human brain, its design, architecture and function. The second part guides through the practical applications of the skills of the left and right hemispheres of the brain, demonstrating how they can be used each separately, and how you can them combine them in specific ways that multiply the advantages you get from using your brain. The third part gives the set of recommendations for using "Radiant Thinking" and "Mind Mapping", to increase the precision and freedom or your thinking. The fourth part gives an overview of all the different intellectual tasks that can be tackled with Mind Maps: making choices (decision-making), organizing your ideas (note-making), organizing other people's ideas (note-taking), creative thinking and advanced brainstorming, improving memory and imagination, and creating a group mind. The fifth part introduces computer software for Mind Maps.
The author claims that brain functions traditionally associated with one side of brain reinforces functions of another part of brain. Instead of saying "I'm not predisposed to some skill", you should say "I should develop this skill", because developing a skill in which you are weak develop the whole brain and reinforces the function or ability in which you think you a strong.
The book is full of vivid colour photographs which bring parallels between Nature, real world life, and Radiant Thinking and Mind Maps. There are also many sample Mind Maps throughout the book, some of them are state of art.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2013I've used Mind-mapping for several years in my high school English classes. Most students love it. It's a great way for students to discover what they know in an engaging way, and it's a valid assessment, too. I use this book and Mr. Buzan's instructional videos on Youtube to get students started. Once they try it, many students are eager to apply Mind -mapping to other classes, such as Chemistry and History and Math. Other teachers are also fond of this process, and they appreciate the wisdom in it. Thank you, Tony!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2012Now, the book as a whole is part concept and part application. I will be honest and say that I only skimmed through the concept part as I have read other literature on Buzman and Mind Mapping. What I loved about this book was the application for teachers at the end. My honors English class really excelled at using a Mind Map to detail The Great Gatsby and when I showed it to my superintendent, she was impressed. Thank you Tony!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best book in field.
Bought book last week. And have started to read. Not rushing to it. By far one of best book comparable with learning how to learn. I will add to review when i finishes it. Prompt delivery by amazon but packing by seller wasn't in amazon packing material but in old newspaper and plastic sheet hence slight damage to book paper cover but nothing serious. Returning back to book - a must read for knowledge workers and students.
