hello Scaling UP! nation Trace Blackmore
here your host for this special holiday
0:14.0
0:19.0
edition of Scaling UP! h2o and of course
every day this week we have been
0:19.0
0:24.5
celebrating an industrial water week
that was Monday we celebrated
0:24.5
0:29.7
pretreatment Tuesday we celebrated
boilers Wednesday we celebrated cooling
0:29.7
0:36.4
yesterday we celebrated wastewater and
today it is all about industrial water
0:36.4
0:43.7
treatment careers folks we have the most
amazing jobs in the world
0:43.7
0:49.7
I tell you I have seen so many things
because I am an industrial water treater
0:49.7
0:58.9
I live my life in my own private house
it made TV shows I’ve seen just about
0:58.9
1:04.5
everything you can imagine I’m sure
that’s not true but I’ve seen a bunch of
1:04.5
1:11.7
stuff how it’s made and I’ve had my own
private tour as I was treating those
1:11.7
1:17.0
systems and folks here’s the best part
they were actually paying me to be there
1:17.0
1:22.9
if you needed a reason to find out why
industrial water treatment was so
1:22.9
1:29.0
awesome or there you go people pay you
to see cool stuff and they will pay you
1:29.0
1:37.1
to solve their issues how can you make
their life easier with the knowledge and
1:37.1
1:45.4
products and services that you have to
help them do their process a little bit
1:45.4
1:53.0
easier a little bit faster a little bit
cheaper well today is October 11th it’s
1:53.0
2:00.2
Friday and we are celebrating careers
and industrial water treatment and I
2:00.2
2:08.9
know that you enjoy this show because
it’s all about your career so what we’re
2:08.9
2:14.8
going to do is I am going to share two
interviews with you that I did at the
2:14.8
2:18.5
association of water technologies
conference of course we’ve been doing
2:18.5
2:22.0
that the entire
we’ve been bringing you to the
2:22.0
2:26.9
association of Water Technologies
conference that we just had this past
2:26.9
2:33.4
September in Palm Springs now if you did
not make it it was a hundred and
2:33.4
2:39.6
thirteen degrees out there
so you are now able to listen to what
2:39.6
2:43.8
you missed that the comfort in some air
conditioning of course we had air
2:43.8
2:46.9
conditioning there the conference hall
wasn’t a hundred and thirteen degrees
2:46.9
2:53.5
but you sure knew it when you walked
outside so one of the things that we do
2:53.5
2:58.5
on the opening night is of the
association of water technology does a
2:58.5
3:05.1
new CW tea dinner and it’s more of a
cocktail hour I guess and what they do
3:05.1
3:11.0
is they serve hors d’oeuvres there’s
some drinks and they introduce all of
3:11.0
3:17.8
the new CW teas that we have at the
association of water technologies
3:17.8
3:23.3
conference and folks I have to applaud
these people and the type of water
3:23.3
3:28.1
treatment that I practice the certified
water technologist designation is the
3:28.1
3:35.5
highest designation that someone can
hold in this industry and there are so
3:35.5
3:41.3
many people that are deciding that they
want to show the end-user that they are
3:41.3
3:46.6
serious about their career and they know
what they are talking about and they are
3:46.6
3:51.4
trying to bolster the entire water
treatment industry by getting the
3:51.4
3:56.0
certified water technologist designation
now if you don’t practice the same type
3:56.0
4:01.2
of water treatment that I do I promise
there is some sort of designation out
4:01.2
4:07.4
there that matches what you do I
encourage you to find out about that and
4:07.4
4:14.2
to go after it and make it yours
so I’m here with Amy Pollak and Amy you
4:14.2
4:18.8
just walked up on stage and you got your
certificate for the certified water
4:18.8
4:24.6
technologist designation congratulations
thank you you want to know what made you
4:24.6
4:30.7
want to get the CWT well
heard somewhere recently that the thing
4:30.7
4:36.9
that makes people the most happiness is
not money or love or obtaining things
4:36.9
4:41.9
but achieving goals and I thought what
better way to try to achieve a goal but
4:41.9
4:45.9
marry that with my work life since I
spend so much time at work so that was
4:45.9
4:49.6
one of the big reasons well what a great
goal to have what are some of the things
4:49.6
4:53.6
that you did to make sure you achieved
it in the timeframe you wanted to get it
4:53.6
4:58.8
by definitely so the technical training
class was key is the test was so broad
4:58.8
5:03.8
that there are a lot of concepts that I
just don’t do on a day-to-day so getting
5:03.8
5:10.4
a refresher on those parts was was key
and setting a deadline for taking the
5:10.4
5:15.6
test and then setting aside study time
so if somebody is thinking about taking
5:15.6
5:19.2
the test right now what advice do you
have for sign up for the technical
5:19.2
5:25.3
training class and before you leave the
technical training class set your test
5:25.3
5:30.3
date awesome well thanks so much and
congratulations I’m here with Craig
5:30.3
5:35.2
Bowden Miller and Craig you just walked
up on stage you got your certified water
5:35.2
5:39.8
technologist certificate I want to know
how does that feel if it feels great
5:39.8
5:42.8
it’s always rewarding to get a
certification like this and all of your
5:42.8
5:46.8
hard work paying off it’s just very
surreal for me why did you decide that
5:46.8
5:50.6
this was a designation you wanted to go
after well for somebody like me I’ve
5:50.6
5:54.5
only been in the business for about
eight years and for my customers I think
5:54.5
5:59.1
it just shows them my my work ethic and
how hard I work and I’m always looking
5:59.1
6:03.3
to strive to provide them a better
service the biggest tip that you have
6:03.3
6:07.6
for somebody that is yet to take the
examination get the technical training
6:07.6
6:12.2
manual and read each section don’t go to
the next section until you have a good
6:12.2
6:17.3
grasp on that previous section awesome
and congratulations the highest
6:17.3
6:21.0
designation in the industry great job
thank you Tracy I appreciate it
6:21.0
6:26.3
nation I’m so proud of these individuals
and all the people that have gotten
6:26.3
6:33.4
their professional designation when we
strive to become better we are raising
6:33.4
6:39.5
that tide that raises the entire
industry well you know the next person I
6:39.5
6:43.9
ran into
as Uncle John or Johnny Z of course I’m
6:43.9
6:50.3
talking about John zabrina and I
mentioned yesterday that AWT does awards
6:50.3
6:54.8
to recognize people that make
significant contributions in the
6:54.8
7:00.9
industry well John’s a Breda was
introduced this year as the ray balm
7:00.9
7:08.2
water treater of the Year recipient and
John is a fellow atlantean I’ve known
7:08.2
7:15.8
John for years he is just an incredible
person he knows so much I know you know
7:15.8
7:20.4
people out there that just know way too
much about everything there’s not a
7:20.4
7:26.7
topic out there that John does not know
about and he is just such a sincere guy
7:26.7
7:33.4
I am proud to call John my friend and
I’m really proud to introduce John as
7:33.4
7:40.4
the ray balm Award winner this year
nation I am here with Uncle John zabrina
7:40.4
7:47.2
John you just won the most prestigious
award that a BT gives out every year the
7:47.2
7:53.4
Ray Vaughn memorial water treater of the
Year award congratulations John thank
7:53.4
7:59.7
you trace I’m truly humbled and honored
to be bestowed this award I knew ray
7:59.7
8:04.6
balm he was a nice man and in those
early days of AWT they thanked you for
8:04.6
8:08.6
just showing up at the card table and
chair set up there were six of them as
8:08.6
8:12.8
brett spoke about last night at the
banquet they had six tables and chairs
8:12.8
8:19.0
that was the beginning of a WD outside
the Vista Hotel where the IWC was being
8:19.0
8:25.3
held and you’ve been at AWT since the
beginning you’ve seen this organization
8:25.3
8:29.2
change tremendously what are some of the
things you can comment on about that
8:29.2
8:32.8
well we’re sitting in this room right
now that’s a big convention hall and
8:32.8
8:37.2
it’s it’s a little bit beyond a card
table and chairs it’s quite the change
8:37.2
8:44.4
the the growth of this organization and
the value it provides for its owner
8:44.4
8:48.7
members is simply phenomenal I don’t
think there’s a trade organization like
8:48.7
8:53.6
AWT for a respective injury industry
like aw hee
8:53.6
8:58.8
become to its owner members so what are
the people on the floor coming to you
8:58.8
9:02.7
and asking you questions about they are
very appreciative that it’s a hundred
9:02.7
9:06.4
degrees in the desert and not
ninety-five in Orlando like last year
9:06.4
9:10.5
that’s for sure well it is a hundred and
twelve degrees right now in the desert
9:10.5
9:14.5
it is hot here but if people keeps on
saying no humidity I think you need
9:14.5
9:18.8
humidity for life I don’t know about you
well we certainly benefit from the
9:18.8
9:23.4
evaporative cooling unlike last year in
Orlando which had no evaporative cooling
9:23.4
9:28.6
but no actually that I think it’s a
robust meeting and I see a lot of people
9:28.6
9:34.2
that are very excited to be here because
it isn’t such a fine location for a
9:34.2
9:37.8
conference and this setup here where the
conference hall is right next to the
9:37.8
9:42.4
main hotel is extremely convenient in
the it’s a little bit of a distance but
9:42.4
9:46.6
it’s very close-knit and it’s a big
enough facility to house the size of the
9:46.6
9:50.4
group that we have and I think it’s a
lot more intimate when it’s at a
9:50.4
9:54.0
facility like the Renaissance that we’re
at today yeah it’s definitely beautiful
9:54.0
9:57.8
it’s convenient
we’re in Louisville next year so I’m not
9:57.8
10:01.2
sure what that layout is but I’m sure
it’s gonna be very well attended I want
10:01.2
10:06.9
to know what you are going to do to
celebrate industrial water week maybe we
10:06.9
10:12.3
could pre sample some of those Bourbons
from Louisville I think that’s the old
10:12.3
10:17.8
Forester and wood Woodford Reserve and
what’s the name of that stuff with the
10:17.8
10:21.5
red bottle there the maker’s mark
maker’s mark well I like where you’re
10:21.5
10:25.0
going with that so we’ll definitely have
to figure that out after this interview
10:25.0
10:28.5
congratulations buddy well thank you
it’s been an honor to work with all the
10:28.5
10:32.1
folks here and like I said last night
I’m thankful to be allowed in their
10:32.1
10:35.2
businesses and allowed to work with them
and many of them in their homes because
10:35.2
10:39.9
this is a fine group of people I do WT
that have has literally changed the face
10:39.9
10:45.3
of industrial water treatment well
thanks John thank you another award that
10:45.3
10:50.0
the association of Water Technologies
gives out is called the Founders Award
10:50.0
10:56.3
and folks this was in memory of Chuck
brand old who is the person that started
10:56.3
11:02.1
the association of Water Technologies
now you heard me interview his son Tom
11:02.1
11:05.6
earlier this week he is this year’s
current
11:05.6
11:11.4
unfortunately Chuck passed away a few
years ago and he was just incredible he
11:11.4
11:18.1
saw a problem where the association did
not exist and there were people that
11:18.1
11:22.6
were doing industrial water treatment
that had a problem and their problem was
11:22.6
11:27.4
they could not get insurance well a lot
of people complain about things and some
11:27.4
11:32.6
people do some things about those things
and Chuck was one of those people he got
11:32.6
11:37.5
several companies together and they
formed a group that later became the
11:37.5
11:43.7
Association of Water Technologies now in
recognition of people that have just
11:43.7
11:48.5
made an incredible contribution to the
water treatment industry the association
11:48.5
11:53.4
of Water Technologies board created the
Founders Award several years ago and
11:53.4
12:01.1
right after Chuck’s death they gave that
to his family well folks I am so excited
12:01.1
12:05.3
about this year they don’t give it away
every single year but they did this year
12:05.3
12:11.9
and the individual they gave it to his
name is Brent Chettle nation I’m here
12:11.9
12:15.6
with Brent Shadle who just received the
prestigious Founders Award
12:15.6
12:20.6
congratulations Brian well thank you
trace so I want to know a little bit
12:20.6
12:24.9
about your career how’d you get into
water treatment it was quite by accident
12:24.9
12:31.5
I was engineer with a union oil company
doing oil refining and that’s actually a
12:31.5
12:38.2
customer then the two big major water
feeding companies Betz and mauka and
12:38.2
12:43.9
being a mechanical engineer though I
felt that maybe I would have more
12:43.9
12:48.3
advancement opportunities going back
into the powered industry where I had
12:48.3
12:54.6
worked previously and so I had accepted
a job with Southern California Edison
12:54.6
12:59.9
when Bette and malko found out about it
and said would you come to work for us
12:59.9
13:04.2
and I originally told them no no I
that’s not really the kind of work that
13:04.2
13:10.9
I’ve ever visioned myself going and but
I had really liked the district manager
13:10.9
13:15.3
for vets Laboratories and so after
thinking about it for about a week or so
13:15.3
13:21.9
I thought well maybe I oughta
at least talk to them and so yeah they
13:21.9
13:26.1
flew me back to Gillingham er worth
Street in Philadelphia where they were
13:26.1
13:31.3
located at that time and I kind of like
the people so I thought when I got back
13:31.3
13:35.2
I talked to my wife and I I told her I
said little Connie you seem like kind of
13:35.2
13:41.3
nice people so maybe I oughta try it for
a year if I don’t like it I can always
13:41.3
13:44.6
go back to engineering I absolutely
loved it
13:44.6
13:49.7
and the rest is history in my entire
life at doing a water treatment ten
13:49.7
13:56.2
years War vets laboratories and then in
1976 we had a broke away I some other
13:56.2
14:01.1
expense guys and formed West
incorporated yeah that’s right Spann –
14:01.1
14:06.4
both of my career well Brent I can’t
wait to have you on the show we’ll
14:06.4
14:10.3
dedicate an entire show to you I want to
learn all about your career but I
14:10.3
14:15.3
especially want to let you know that we
are so incredibly proud that you’ve won
14:15.3
14:18.6
that prestigious award there’s nobody I
can think of more deserving oh thank you
14:18.6
14:22.5
trace it was certainly an honor and
especially an honor to have known those
14:22.5
14:28.2
founders they were a remarkable group of
people they had a lot of vision they saw
14:28.2
14:33.4
me they read step forward at their own
expense and that did what was needed to
14:33.4
14:39.1
be done to form this fine fine
organization so really worked out well
14:39.1
14:43.8
for everything when this show airs were
of course here at the Association Water
14:43.8
14:48.3
Technologies conference but it’s going
to air during an industrial water week
14:48.3
14:52.5
an entire week where we get to celebrate
us being industrial water traders I want
14:52.5
14:55.4
to know how are you going to be
celebrating industrial water week I
14:55.4
14:59.7
haven’t thought about this first I’ve
heard of it alright we’ll figure out
14:59.7
15:04.2
some way where you can you can celebrate
that and congratulations again oh thank
15:04.2
15:09.4
you Trace I so appreciate it now I just
spoke about the certified water
15:09.4
15:14.6
technologist designation and of course
that means you have to pass an exam well
15:14.6
15:21.1
folks the exam we have now is a cakewalk
compared to what the original
15:21.1
15:26.1
examination was now that examination the
original one was written by
15:26.1
15:30.8
Brentt shuttle and he did not like
people I think I mean this was the
15:30.8
15:37.7
hardest exam you can imagine and of
course later we then evolved the exam
15:37.7
15:43.2
and it is a very good sampling of what
people do in the industrial water
15:43.2
15:48.1
treatment industry and of course you get
a unique examination every time you take
15:48.1
15:51.9
that test because it’s
computer-generated yes I said test I
15:51.9
15:56.4
thought I could get through this segment
and not say that but unfortunately test
15:56.4
16:01.9
is just programmed there so Angela I
apologize but Brent you have done so
16:01.9
16:06.6
much for the industry and ladies and
gentlemen Brent said that he was coming
16:06.6
16:13.0
on Scaling UP! h2o so very shortly we
will be interviewing Brent shuttle and
16:13.0
16:19.6
we will learn all about him the next
person I spoke with is one of our
16:19.6
16:24.4
biggest cheerleaders here at Scaling UP!
h2o of course I’m talking about Michelle
16:24.4
16:29.5
farmerie she leads so many committees
and task force at the association of
16:29.5
16:33.6
Water Technologies one she doesn’t lead
anymore but she still does a lot of work
16:33.6
16:37.5
for it is the young professionals group
of course we talked a lot about that
16:37.5
16:42.8
this week and she just does so much
stuff including letting people know
16:42.8
16:50.5
about the Scaling UP! h2o podcast here’s
Michelle ladies and gentlemen the lovely
16:50.5
16:55.7
the talented Michelle farmerie Michelle
you just came back from a young
16:55.7
17:00.4
professionals panel that you chaired you
actually this is your second year in a
17:00.4
17:04.1
row so I want to ask you a little bit
about that what were some of the key
17:04.1
17:08.8
things that you think came out of that
panel discussion I think it was a very
17:08.8
17:11.9
productive discussion especially it was
nice you know that we didn’t get
17:11.9
17:16.3
insulted all over the place for being
stupid Millennials well I was a little
17:16.3
17:20.6
responsible for that last year because I
opened up the floor last year by stating
17:20.6
17:25.0
what are some words that come to mind
when you think of Millennials and they
17:25.0
17:28.8
weren’t very kind were they no not at
all but honestly I am so glad that you
17:28.8
17:33.4
did it because it was nice to be able to
combat that because there’s so many bad
17:33.4
17:36.2
negative
stigmas about why peace and be able to
17:36.2
17:40.4
combat that was awesome but today’s was
really great we had a couple different
17:40.4
17:45.9
panelists than we did last year and then
questions just were very thoughtful and
17:45.9
17:50.5
I don’t mean that as nice thoughtful but
like actually thought-provoking and you
17:50.5
17:55.3
know very just detailed and everybody
kind of had different answers that I
17:55.3
18:01.1
thought were very helpful to our owners
so a lot of people taking notes so what
18:01.1
18:06.3
are some new things that you’re learning
at this year’s AWT conference hmm I’m
18:06.3
18:11.6
learning I can karaoke with a live band
that’s we might actually put that video
18:11.6
18:19.2
up on my show notes page but I know in a
serious thing I’ve learned some business
18:19.2
18:22.5
information from the business owners
side of things and a lot about
18:22.5
18:26.1
Legionella there are so many different
Legionella filters like everybody wants
18:26.1
18:29.4
to get in on the Legionella train so if
you haven’t yet on it
18:29.4
18:33.2
well don’t get me Janelle of that
something yeah that’s that’s not what we
18:33.2
18:36.2
want to do so that’s not what she’s
advising nation but definitely learn
18:36.2
18:41.4
about Legionella and what you can do to
prevent legionellosis I also want to ask
18:41.4
18:44.8
because when this comes out we’re going
to be right smack dab in the middle of
18:44.8
18:48.6
industrial water week how are you
celebrating industrial water week I
18:48.6
18:52.1
cannot wait to celebrate industrial
water week I’m pretty sure I’m gonna get
18:52.1
18:56.3
a cake for my office and say hey
everybody check out industrial water
18:56.3
19:00.5
week were we’re so cool we have our own
holiday but not just a day it’s a week
19:00.5
19:04.1
but no I’m gonna enlighten my employees
about it and make sure that they’re
19:04.1
19:09.0
checking out the James McDonald’s
website and and taking the time to
19:09.0
19:12.8
appreciate all the different aspects of
water treatment and all the different
19:12.8
19:17.2
jobs that we do we were such a mold and
a blend of everything in this industry
19:17.2
19:21.3
there’s no like a water being a water
treat or doesn’t just mean street water
19:21.3
19:24.6
there there’s so much that we all do and
so it’s a really cool industry to
19:24.6
19:28.3
appreciate
Oh awesome well thanks for chatting with
19:28.3
19:34.4
us absolutely thank you trace nation
michelle’s episode was episode 12 and of
19:34.4
19:38.7
course you can hear her throughout
different drive-by interviews that I
19:38.7
19:44.7
have done throughout the years Michelle
thank you so much for supporting us in
19:44.7
19:50.8
what we do the next person I bumped into
is Mike hi um of McGowan Insurance now
19:50.8
19:57.5
Mike was on episode 25 and Mike just
knows all things insurance
19:57.5
20:04.2
it’s incredible what he knows and how
he’s able to figure out risk nation I’m
20:04.2
20:09.3
here with Mike hi um of McGowan
insurance former guest of Scaling UP! we
20:09.3
20:13.2
all learned so much about insurance and
why it’s so important and some things
20:13.2
20:17.3
that we need to think about when we’re
selling the accounts I’m curious what
20:17.3
20:21.2
are some of the questions that people
are asking you here at the show what do
20:21.2
20:24.5
they want to know about about insurance
well they really want to know more about
20:24.5
20:29.7
how to manage their risk insurance being
one thing and we’re certainly happy to
20:29.7
20:36.0
provide a good quality policy with sound
coverage good claim service good service
20:36.0
20:40.0
from our brokerage but it really comes
down to how you manage your own risk
20:40.0
20:44.7
both internally and with your customers
and so we talked about contract language
20:44.7
20:49.6
we talk about approach with the
salespeople and how you navigate through
20:49.6
20:54.6
certain challenges that are naturally
coming your way what is something that
20:54.6
20:59.0
every water treaty needs to know when it
comes to insurance I think they need to
20:59.0
21:05.1
understand the degree of magnitude and
the potential risk that is presented to
21:05.1
21:09.5
them everything from a small account to
the very largest account that they have
21:09.5
21:13.9
it’s a people business they need to
understand the personalities that are
21:13.9
21:19.7
involved and what kind of risks they may
be taking on no matter house what the
21:19.7
21:23.4
size of that business may be great
advice and I have to ask what are you
21:23.4
21:27.5
doing to celebrate industrial water week
well I think I’m gonna close up here and
21:27.5
21:30.1
I’m gonna take my wife out to dinner and
we’ll celebrate something well there are
21:30.1
21:34.8
you guys thanks for chatting with us
thank you you know episode 25 you might
21:34.8
21:38.4
not think a lot of people would enjoy
because it’s about insurance
21:38.4
21:43.6
and Myka I love you but it’s not the
most sexy of topics out there so many
21:43.6
21:48.4
people wrote in to the show to let me
know that they now understand that
21:48.4
21:53.9
mysterious item called insurance but
what people are saying is they now
21:53.9
21:58.3
understand conversations that they have
to have with their customers during the
21:58.3
22:03.5
sales process so now they don’t lose it
on the back end when they have to have a
22:03.5
22:09.1
contract sign so thank you so much for
recording of that episode with us Mike
22:09.1
22:14.0
so many people have gotten a lot out of
it speaking of getting a lot out of an
22:14.0
22:20.8
episode Mike Standish came on episode 14
now Mike owns a company called radical
22:20.8
22:28.8
polymers and Mike is just an expert on
polymers and what Mike is able to do is
22:28.8
22:36.7
he’s able to talk about polymers in a
way that makes everybody understand what
22:36.7
22:40.0
he’s talking about
so many of us in the industrial
22:40.0
22:45.5
water-treatment world cannot explain
things to people that don’t understand
22:45.5
22:50.4
at the same level that they are well
mike is just fantastic he can talk to
22:50.4
22:57.1
somebody that’s been in the industry for
one day or 20 years he just knows his
22:57.1
23:01.9
stuff another legend ladies and
gentlemen Mike Standish Mike I’m trying
23:01.9
23:06.3
to remember what episode you were you
were in the early portion it was in the
23:06.3
23:11.3
teens I believe it should have been
number one you are absolutely correct
23:11.3
23:15.7
with that I lost my mind for a little
bit I think you were I’ll find out what
23:15.7
23:18.5
it was and I’ll post it on the show
notes page but you were fantastic and
23:18.5
23:23.3
there’s no doubt about it the Scaling UP!
nation loves how you dissect polymers
23:23.3
23:26.8
and make it understandable Thanks so we
definitely want to get you to come back
23:26.8
23:31.5
and do some more of love to do that well
I want to ask you you are a vendor here
23:31.5
23:35.2
at the Association Water Technologies
what are some of the things that you are
23:35.2
23:40.3
picking up here at the show well I think
it’s a vibrant show this has been a very
23:40.3
23:43.9
vibrant show with a lot of new
technologies presented a lot of
23:43.9
23:48.8
enthusiasm a lot of young people here
which is great to see it’s definitely
23:48.8
23:53.1
need in the industry
now what is one tip that everybody needs
23:53.1
23:57.9
to know when it comes to polymer
technology use the right product for the
23:57.9
24:02.4
right application spoken very well and
this is coming out during industrial
24:02.4
24:06.4
water week so how will you be
celebrating hopefully by selling more
24:06.4
24:11.3
polymer yeah a popular answer all right
thanks so much for chatting with us
24:11.3
24:17.9
thank you one nation as we wrap up
careers Friday here are a few more
24:17.9
24:23.6
interviews that I did as I was in the
association of water technologies
24:23.6
24:29.3
convention and Expo I’m with Tyler
Cooper a premier water Tyler this is not
24:29.3
24:33.2
your first rodeo you have been to the
AWT conventions before why do you keep
24:33.2
24:37.8
coming back well I get a lot of value
out of it it’s great to not only network
24:37.8
24:42.0
with colleagues that are in similar
industries but different regions even
24:42.0
24:45.1
some that are in our own region and then
always to see the latest and greatest
24:45.1
24:48.9
from the vendors and and all the
volunteers that are out here what are
24:48.9
24:52.6
some of the latest and greatest things
that you’ve seen this week so this week
24:52.6
24:57.2
we’ve been really focusing on a lot of
filtration as well as equipment so new
24:57.2
25:01.1
controllers everybody’s got an upgrade
from the previous version so that’s
25:01.1
25:05.0
really what we’ve been focusing on and I
can’t help but notice you’ve got a CWT
25:05.0
25:09.0
ribbon on your badge so why did you get
that and what is it done for you I
25:09.0
25:14.1
really wanted to get it because being
young I feel like it added a little bit
25:14.1
25:17.7
of credibility to have that with me I
think it’s very valuable we’re pushing a
25:17.7
25:21.2
lot of our employees to go that route as
well and trying to create a little bit
25:21.2
25:24.7
of competition so that we can get our
numbers up Tyler everybody here they
25:24.7
25:29.1
want to know how you are going to
celebrate industrial water week well
25:29.1
25:33.3
some of our guys we’re gonna follow the
hashtags and probably take some selfies
25:33.3
25:37.8
in front of some boilers some cooling
towers and enjoy what we do I love it
25:37.8
25:40.1
maybe listen to some extra Scaling UP!
episodes
25:40.1
25:44.0
that’s whoo yes awesome thanks for
chatting with us race nation I was
25:44.0
25:48.0
another Legend and the water treatment
industry Casey Walton of Walton
25:48.0
25:51.3
technologies Casey what are some of the
things that you’re learning here at the
25:51.3
25:56.1
AWT annual convention I’ve been learning
some more products for my cooling hot
25:56.1
26:00.3
water line we’re talking with Mike
Standish radical polymers are they great
26:00.3
26:03.9
right and so I’m looking at some of this
stuff to incorporate in my formulations
26:03.9
26:06.6
here and I’m also looking at some things
for equipments and for some projects I
26:06.6
26:10.4
got coming up awesome and how are you
going to be celebrating industrial water
26:10.4
26:14.8
week trying to get more sales I think
that’s a very popular answer thanks so
26:14.8
26:21.5
much you’re welcome ladies and gentlemen
I found Gary Garcia of masters companies
26:21.5
26:27.5
Gary we saw you at the ASHRAE show and I
wasn’t expecting to see you there but
26:27.5
26:31.7
there was a friendly face and we chatted
there I’m curious how are things going
26:31.7
26:34.6
here at the AWT conference and what are
some of the things that you brought to
26:34.6
26:38.4
share with us things are going well
we’ve seen a fair amount of foot traffic
26:38.4
26:43.4
all to the good we’ve been demonstrating
and showing some of our new products
26:43.4
26:49.8
that range anywhere from a mother nature
created all organic treatment that
26:49.8
26:53.4
competes with some of the other more
traditional treatments who are ultra
26:53.4
26:57.5
concentrated lines and some of the new
test core services we’ve developed so
26:57.5
27:01.4
they’re very cool looks like you guys
have a beautiful booth um I’ve seen a
27:01.4
27:05.0
lot of traffic here so I’m guessing it’s
a good show for ya so far it’s a great
27:05.0
27:12.8
show we hope it continues until the end
and we accept purchase orders and you
27:12.8
27:17.1
are on the board of the Association of
Water Technologies so for all the people
27:17.1
27:20.7
out there in the Scaling UP! nation that
are curious about the AWT you now have
27:20.7
27:24.3
an open mic what do you want to share
with them first of all it’s a great
27:24.3
27:29.7
organization second of all the knowledge
in the networking that you get here
27:29.7
27:34.2
you’ll never get anywhere else
third of all we need more participants
27:34.2
27:39.3
and volunteers love to have you and
lastly if I can be of assistance in any
27:39.3
27:43.6
way or answer a question never hesitate
to let me know well we appreciate you
27:43.6
27:47.2
answering our questions thanks so much
thanks trace take care all the best
27:47.2
27:52.8
nation I’m here in the envirotec booth
with Steve Jacobs how are you on this
27:52.8
27:59.0
fine AWT convention day fantastic third
day of the convention we’ve had a great
27:59.0
28:04.0
turnout I’ve had a lot of great leads
come through our booth lots of technical
28:04.0
28:10.6
questions mainly to do with our DB MPA
products and right now we are also
28:10.6
28:16.5
having seminars in the booth on our
tablets are DB and PA tablets we also
28:16.5
28:21.4
did a lot of information sharing on our
liquid stabilized bromine well awesome
28:21.4
28:24.8
and now the question everybody wants to
know is how are you going to celebrate
28:24.8
28:29.2
industrial water week with a diet coke
well there you go
28:29.2
28:34.0
a coconut smile absolutely thanks for
chatting with us okay thanks
28:34.0
28:41.0

around the convention hall here at AWT
28:41.0
28:46.5
how are you Lane oh great loving it I
know you are a faithful listener of
28:46.5
28:48.3
Scaling UP! H2O so I want to thank you for
28:48.3
28:51.7
that
oh yes love Scaling UP! and I also know
28:51.7
28:56.1
that you come to this show each and
every year and you learn something new
28:56.1
29:01.9
what are some of the things that you’re
looking at during this week at AWT well
29:01.9
29:05.3
I’ve been looking at a lot of stuff
there’s a lot of new vendors here this
29:05.3
29:09.8
year that I haven’t seen before
I’ve seen a lot of our vendors that we
29:09.8
29:15.1
work with right now but I’ve seen so
many new vendors so you know possibly we
29:15.1
29:19.9
might start using some of them it’s an
incredible place where else can you go
29:19.9
29:24.8
and find everybody that sells the wares
that you’re possibly going to need I
29:24.8
29:30.6
know I know it’s amazing and there’s
just so many different things here no
29:30.6
29:34.6
Eileen the biggest question I have for
you is Industrial Water Week is coming
29:34.6
29:39.8
up how are you and Bob celebrating
industrial water week we’re gonna have
29:39.8
29:45.4

29:45.4
29:50.8
thank you I’m here with Subaru cool and
you just told me the coolest story
29:50.8
29:55.3
you’re from Turkey and apparently the
water in Turkey is a little bit
29:55.3
30:04.3
different from New York where you live
now so now now something happened you
30:04.3
30:09.5
you went we were used to water in Turkey
you came to New York and and tell us
30:09.5
30:35.4
that story I suppose of my first cast
and I thought I was because it was my
30:35.4
31:08.5
first I am from that you learn you trust
your test right so is this your first a
31:08.5
31:13.1
