well happy boiler Tuesday folks we are
celebrating industrial Water Week this
0:15.1

0:22.7
entire week industrial water week is the
first full week of every October and I
0:22.7

0:29.4
want to welcome you to this special
holiday edition of Scaling UP! h2o my
0:29.4

0:36.1
name is Trace Blackmore I am the host of
Scaling UP! h2o and I am so excited that
0:36.1

0:44.2
we finally have a holiday that is just
for us today we are celebrating boilers
0:44.2

0:49.7
and a boiler is defined as a closed
vessel in which fluid generally water is
0:49.7

0:55.4
heated to produce steam so folks when we
talk about boilers that always gets
0:55.4

1:03.9
boiled down see what I did there – the
BTU the British thermal unit and I think
1:03.9

1:09.9
it’s only fitting for this boiler
Tuesday that we talk about the man who
1:09.9

1:17.7
invented the boiler his name was James
Watt and he invented the boiler in the
1:17.7

1:27.0
very early 1800’s and folks the invention
of the boiler is why we had the
1:27.0

1:35.2
Industrial Revolution we were finally
able to harness the power of water and
1:35.2

1:42.5
we did not physically have to do the
labor ourselves or better yet we did not
1:42.5

1:49.0
have to take care of a bunch of horses
to do the work for us
1:49.0

1:56.2
so when James Watt invented his steam
boiler he went out to farms and places
1:56.2

2:03.2
that could use that working force and
nobody understood what it was that he
2:03.2

2:10.8
was trying to sell and that’s when he
converted and coined the term horsepower
2:10.8

2:15.2
horsepower was what James Watt came up
with
2:15.2

2:22.8
so people could understand how many
horses his machine would replace I bet
2:22.8

2:28.1
you didn’t know that but now you do and
that’s just one of the things that we’re
2:28.1

2:33.3
going to do today to celebrate
industrial water week so I’m hoping you
2:33.3

2:39.6
take every day this week to learn
something new about the equipment that
2:39.6

2:46.6
you are treating I also hope that you
are making Scaling UP! h2o your one-stop
2:46.6

2:52.1
way to celebrate industrial water week
and we’re going to continue just like
2:52.1

2:58.1
with what we did yesterday we’re gonna
continue our conversations with people
2:58.1

3:04.3
we ran into at the association of Water
Technologies convention the first person
3:04.3

3:10.5
we spoke with was Larry Pannell and
Larry is a great supporter of ours he
3:10.5

3:16.6
was recently with paul sofia and he was
always asking me what he could do at the
3:16.6

3:22.3
convention to help Scaling UP! h2o Larry
you always had a banner of Scaling UP!
3:22.3

3:26.8
h2o in your booth well I want to
personally thank you for everything that
3:26.8

3:32.8
you’ve done to help get the message out
about our podcast and ladies and
3:32.8

3:38.1
gentlemen here’s Larry I’m here with
Larry panel of recently Quantrill how
3:38.1

3:41.6
are you Larry I’m doing well how are you
dressed doing very well so we are
3:41.6

3:45.8
celebrating industrial Water Week and
you’ve been in water treatment for a
3:45.8

3:49.5
while now I’m curious how are you
celebrating industrial Water Week well
3:49.5

3:53.2
I’m celebrating with my customers asking
how I can help them out that’s a good
3:53.2

3:55.8
answer
so what’s something that somebody
3:55.8

3:59.7
listening in the Scaling UP! nation needs
to know about water treatment what tips
3:59.7

4:04.3
do you have for tips for water treatment
well never turn down an opportunity
4:04.3

4:09.0
always look for the best way to serve
your customer alright fair enough
4:09.0

4:15.5
and as far as what you are doing now
tell us about your life my life in the
4:15.5

4:19.6
water treatment well I began water
treatment in
4:19.6

4:24.3
1985 I’m going to show my age here I
started a station Janee R at a hospital
4:24.3

4:30.9
with three Kewanee 350-horsepower
boilers 2010 Itachi’s orders and two
4:30.9

4:36.4
barley coolant hours I worked there
until 1990 where I went to now of
4:36.4

4:41.6
chemical I did a 23 years that with now
come or I set up global equipment
4:41.6

4:46.5
support around the globe then seven
years ago I went to pulse afeder where I
4:46.5

4:51.6
was vice president of global sales and
just recently I joined the Quantrill
4:51.6

4:55.5
team and moved back home to Illinois
left Florida and I am vice president of
4:55.5

4:59.7
sales for Cointreau alright and I
understand you were a licensed boiler
4:59.7

5:03.9
operator absolutely saw my first license
was through the city of Elgin that’s
5:03.9

5:07.3
where I kind of broke the ground at and
then I went on to get the city of
5:07.3

5:12.5
Chicago license so having that license
how did that help you be a more
5:12.5

5:17.2
successful water trader oh well the
license the license a very hard license
5:17.2

5:20.9
to get it it’s not something very easy
it teaches you the right way to treat a
5:20.9

5:24.2
boiler it teaches you how to respect the
boiler the boiler can be a very
5:24.2

5:27.1
dangerous thing and if you don’t treat
the water correctly and you have
5:27.1

5:32.0
carryover and you have low water failure
you’re gonna have a disaster and that’s
5:32.0

5:35.8
normally a pretty bad disaster when you
talk about a boiler yeah that’s correct
5:35.8

5:41.0
what is your strangest boiler story that
you can think of okay so I actually have
5:41.0

5:45.3
my license suspended for a time so I was
doing the PM’s at nighttime and I was
5:45.3

5:48.6
putting it on number two diesel fuel
that was the backup there natural gas
5:48.6

5:55.2
and during the purge and then it ignited
off and I heard a Boosh next day and all
5:55.2

5:58.3
the security is coming down in the
boiler room a we had quit falling from
5:58.3

6:02.5
your breaching of the chimney so called
the chief engineer and he came down they
6:02.5

6:06.1
had to call in the insurance and
investigators my license was suspended I
6:06.1

6:09.6
had to be I couldn’t operate the boiler
room alone again I’d have a licensed
6:09.6

6:12.9
engineer with me until the investigation
was done what happened is during the
6:12.9

6:17.7
purge the sill evolved to atomize the
number to a decent fuel stock closed it
6:17.7

6:22.2
fill the hole breaching up was full of
number two diesel and when it ignited it
6:22.2

6:27.6
ignited all the way out the chimney Wow
luckily no one was hurt right well that
6:27.6

6:31.4
is an interesting story
so I have someone recover from that you
6:31.4

6:35.5
have like gun-shy every time you start
the boiler now yes absolutely so hey dad
6:35.5

6:39.0
never did that p.m. ever again I just
let someone else do that Bo
6:39.0

6:43.0
well Larry thanks so much for talking
with us thank you folks you can just
6:43.0

6:47.2
hear in the background all the
excitement that goes on at these
6:47.2

6:54.5
conventions the next person I ran into
was Laura Sanders and Laura lives right
6:54.5

7:00.3
down the street from me she works with
wst water science technologies and of
7:00.3

7:07.6
course you remember that name because
that is where Marodi Cribari worked and
7:07.6

7:16.0
yes I said past tense she was on episode
89 90 and 91 those were the filming Amines
7:16.0

7:22.7
episodes and folks I gotta tell you I
received so much good feedback about
7:22.7

7:29.3
those episodes and Marodi was just
delightful to speak with she is such a
7:29.3

7:35.0
wealth of knowledge now she’s still
working with WST I don’t think it’s on a
7:35.0

7:41.7
full-time basis she is actually going to
get her nursing a degree so how cool is
7:41.7

7:48.3
that so ladies and gentlemen if you will
Laura Sanders I’m here in the WST booth
7:48.3

7:53.6
with Laura Sanders and what are you
doing here what are you guys talking
7:53.6

7:58.8
about some more filming amines are all
to mean product line for cooling towers
7:58.8

8:05.6
boilers and closed-loop systems all
right to of course do papayas I know
8:05.6

8:09.0
what are some of the questions that
you’re getting from some of the people
8:09.0

8:13.1
coming up here a lot of questions about
the testing of course that’s always the
8:13.1

8:17.1
topic I had tried to figure out how much
you dosed in and then just how the
8:17.1

8:23.5
chemicals work how they’re fed where
they’re fed how much to feed mainly it’s
8:23.5

8:26.8
been a good show for you it’s been a
really good show first afternoon we
8:26.8

8:29.7
thought it was a little bit slower but I
think everyone was trying to get into
8:29.7

8:32.4
town and then
yesterday and a day have been slammed
8:32.4

8:35.6
yeah I’ve heard Palm Springs a little
difficult to get into if you people are
8:35.6

8:38.9
to make a couple of connections but once
they got here they’ve had a great time
8:38.9

8:42.5
yeah it’s been great when there’s been
great it’s not I was worried about the
8:42.5

8:47.4
temperatures looking at them on my
weather app but and by the way your
8:47.4

8:50.4
weather app will say it’s 113 degrees
right now
8:50.4

8:54.7
okay so stay inside we’re fellow
Atlanteans that’s just too high
8:54.7

9:00.7
yeah it’s way too high no humidity here
yeah humidity plus those temperatures I
9:00.7

9:04.3
would I would be in trouble now the
question everybody wants to know how are
9:04.3

9:09.3
you going to be celebrating industrial
Water Week balloons and confetti I think
9:09.3

9:12.1
are the best you can’t go wrong with
balloons and confetti I think that’s the
9:12.1

9:17.9
greatest thanks for chatting with us all
right cool thanks yesterday we spoke
9:17.9

9:22.2
with David wagon for last year’s
president of course he was the current
9:22.2

9:27.7
president as I was interviewing him now
he’s the immediate past president so
9:27.7

9:32.7
next up we are going to hear from this
year’s current president of the
9:32.7

9:38.7
Association of Water Technologies Tom
Moran bold nation I’m here with upcoming
9:38.7

9:43.8
president Tom Brandel Tom what an
amazing convention this has been yeah
9:43.8

9:48.6
it’s been this highest attended
convention that we’ve had over 1,250
9:48.6

9:53.5
registrations and the most exhibitors
that we’ve ever had well it is uh it’s a
9:53.5

9:57.6
great exhibit hall I’ve received some
comments myself that people really like
9:57.6

10:01.8
how it’s so spread out they’ve been
having really good conversations but I
10:01.8

10:06.8
am curious what can the Scaling UP!
nation expect from a WT next year well
10:06.8

10:09.8
we’re going to be in Louisville the
space is similar to this we’ll have
10:09.8

10:13.3
plenty of space in fact I saw a
preliminary floor plan today that showed
10:13.3

10:17.2
space for up to 200 booths
that’ll be again a bigger space than we
10:17.2

10:22.0
have here and coming off of Orlando
where last year we had to split the hall
10:22.0

10:25.6
into two spaces this year’s been a
blessing and next year I’ll Fordyce the
10:25.6

10:27.9
same opportunity
awesome what are some of the comments
10:27.9

10:31.8
that you’re hearing about AWT being the
upcoming president well it’s interesting
10:31.8

10:36.4
I’m getting some very high-level stuff
and some very low-level stuff I had
10:36.4

10:39.8
someone tell me that there was they were
having a hard time getting soap from
10:39.8

10:42.9
housekeeping in their room of the hotel
and
10:42.9

10:45.7
I felt like I can help with that oh
you’re presidential you can do anything
10:45.7

10:50.1
and then I heard comments about someone
vacuuming the rug in their exhibit
10:50.1

10:54.8
studies and then I’ve heard commentary
about the quality of the technical
10:54.8

10:58.4
presentations and a couple of panels
that we’ve had so I get the whole array
10:58.4

11:04.0
of the comments so what are some of the
new things that AWT is releasing this
11:04.0

11:07.7
year that we can all expect
well the online training modules will be
11:07.7

11:12.3
the big thing many of those are complete
the entire library will be done by the
11:12.3

11:16.3
end of the year maybe a little before
that and Trace an exciting thing there
11:16.3

11:22.1
was a glitch in the testing piece behind
each module when you tested it would
11:22.1

11:27.1
dump you out it was it was clunky okay
to use a technical term an IT term I’m
11:27.1

11:31.5
familiar with that term so it was clunky
to utilize and one of the things we’ve
11:31.5

11:35.7
done is fixed that so anyone that’s used
those modules the ones have already been
11:35.7

11:39.9
released and it found that kind of
clunky go back and try it again because
11:39.9

11:43.8
the whole testing piece where you test
out of each module has been greatly
11:43.8

11:47.1
improved but look for the rest of that
library to be completed this year and
11:47.1

11:50.7
that by the way Trace is free to members
yeah that’s that’s right service that
11:50.7

11:54.5
AWT offers that’s a big initiative that
will complete here in the next 90 days
11:54.5

11:57.5
well awesome well you’re doing
tremendous work thank you for all the
11:57.5

12:01.1
time that you put into the Association
but the question everybody wants to know
12:01.1

12:06.1
is how are you celebrating industrial
water week my plates pretty full so I
12:06.1

12:09.5
might try to get away from my phone and
get away from my computer for a little
12:09.5

12:15.5
bit and catch my breath after this very
busy week yeah we’ve done a great job
12:15.5

12:20.5
and we look forward to a great year for
AWT yeah well thanks Jason thanks for
12:20.5

12:25.6
everything you do for the Association
Tom once again I want to thank you for
12:25.6

12:31.4
everything that you and the association
of Water Technologies does for all of us
12:31.4

12:37.1
industrial water treaters
having a place to go where we can view
12:37.1

12:43.7
all of our vendors wares meet people
that do the exact same thing that we do
12:43.7

12:49.7
we know that that convention does not
happen on its own so thank you for
12:49.7

12:53.5
everything that you and your staff does
to make that happen
12:53.5

13:00.2
Tom Kenny was the next person that I ran
into and Tom was one of my very first
13:00.2

13:07.9
guess he was episode three and he told
us on that episode how to troubleshoot a
13:07.9

13:12.9
controller now ladies and gentlemen if
you have never been to a technical
13:12.9

13:19.3
training especially the fundamentals and
applications training Tom tinny is one
13:19.3

13:25.6
of the people that bring their equipment
to the training and teaches you how to
13:25.6

13:31.3
troubleshoot it Tom will bring out a
multimeter and show you what you need to
13:31.3

13:35.6
know to diagnose a controller so Tom
thanks for all you do
13:35.6

13:39.7
thanks for all the other people that
helped us do that training it’s one of
13:39.7

13:44.1
the most awesome trainings I think there
is in water treatment and I am very
13:44.1

13:49.6
proud to be a part of that as well so
ladies and gentlemen Tom tinny nation I
13:49.6

13:54.0
am in front of no other but the infamous
Tom tinny
13:54.0

13:59.3
episode one two three you are up there I
think I was episode one you were one of
13:59.3

14:05.0
my very first guests you started us all
off on such a great set how are you at
14:05.0

14:09.2
the AWT conference I’m doing good I’m
having a great time here interacting
14:09.2

14:11.9
with a lot of the water treaters doing
what we do with we’re talking about
14:11.9

14:15.3
equipment but yeah it’s all fine it’s
all good great hall by the way I the
14:15.3

14:19.9
entire setup here is it’s kind of a
wide-open situation plenty of room for
14:19.9

14:23.4
people to kind of mingle and talk and I
mean we got more vendors now than we had
14:23.4

14:27.2
previously if you want to see something
water treatment wise these are the
14:27.2

14:30.4
people to make the stuff for the water
treaters everybody’s here it’s huge
14:30.4

14:33.8
everybody here what are some of the
things that you guys are offering this
14:33.8

14:37.0
year’s well right now we’re just in the
stage of upgrading some of our current
14:37.0

14:41.8
technology so our topping Nexus
controller we’re on the verge of putting
14:41.8

14:45.7
things like the 4G capability built into
the controller and a dual display
14:45.7

14:49.6
that’ll let the the really cool touch
display be installed another part of the
14:49.6

14:52.5
building and they’ll actually interact
at the same time so that’s that’s that
14:52.5

14:55.7
that’s where we’re at right now on our
company just keep bridging that platform
14:55.7

14:59.5
forward a little step at a time one more
thing so that’s pretty cool and my last
14:59.5

15:03.9
question what are you doing to celebrate
industrial water week well just sales
15:03.9

15:06.7
and
taking a bunch of stuff on for the AWT
15:06.7

15:10.6
we went to there our subcommittee
meetings and and came away with homework
15:10.6

15:15.1
lots of homework man this organization
just keeps pumping it out but it’s good
15:15.1

15:18.6
because they give this is one of the few
organizations to give the vendors the
15:18.6

15:22.3
people that appear to show an
opportunity to participate in the
15:22.3

15:26.4
committee’s and the organization and
contribute something meaningful and then
15:26.4

15:29.6
our payback is always at the water
treatment industry benefit so across
15:29.6

15:32.8
that as a whole so we’re pretty excited
about that but like I said our big thing
15:32.8

15:37.2
is we’re leaving with homework well
being a part of that committee and I
15:37.2

15:41.6
might have been the person that gave you
some but I want to thank you the
15:41.6

15:46.2
fundamentals and applications training
it just comes so far and you’ve been
15:46.2

15:49.6
such a big part of that thank you for
everything that you’re doing and I
15:49.6

15:53.5
appreciate that it’s it’s been an
awesome experience I think it was just
15:53.5

15:57.6
literally a thought occurrence I came at
the board or I came but the the
15:57.6

16:00.2
committee years ago I said boy it’d be
nice if you guys could do something like
16:00.2

16:05.3
this and what I didn’t get was now I’ll
never do that what I got was hey well
16:05.3

16:10.8
you need to join the committee and stop
talking and start doing buddy and it got
16:10.8

16:13.4
easy after that so and folks if you
don’t know what we’re talking about on
16:13.4

16:17.8
the Saturday we’re we’re we’re finishing
our last day of fundamentals an
16:17.8

16:22.5
application fine vendors like like Tom
and Lakewood are there and they are
16:22.5

16:26.2
showing you their wares they’re opening
up the controllers they’re having you
16:26.2

16:30.0
put in multimeters across the boards
they are showing you the top ten things
16:30.0

16:33.4
that you need to know to troubleshoot
the equipment it’s not a sales pitch
16:33.4

16:37.6
it’s not a product pitch because we have
everybody there teaching the the people
16:37.6

16:41.3
that want to know how this thing works
answering the upfront questions getting
16:41.3

16:45.0
your fingers in so you’re comfortable
grabbing into that controller and doing
16:45.0

16:48.0
some cool stuff with it and learning the
basics in the field that you’ll be able
16:48.0

16:51.1
to repeat out in the field you know we
still appreciate the phone calls
16:51.1

16:54.7
we love talk to you guys but being able
to be on an audit on a cooling tower
16:54.7

16:56.8
where you’ll have interception and
knowing that next step of
16:56.8

16:59.4
troubleshooting so that’s what that
class has become and I’m just really
16:59.4

17:02.1
excited about it it’s going to continue
to grow yeah I’m excited about what it’s
17:02.1

17:06.4
becoming as well last time we talked to
you you had just finished a book any
17:06.4

17:11.3
more books actually my son and I are
working on a our second book we made
17:11.3

17:14.6
enough royalties from the first book
that I was actually able to fly down to
17:14.6

17:17.1
Australia and surprise him and me for
the first time
17:17.1

17:20.7
granddaughter as well and it was all
very cool there’s a video on YouTube of
17:20.7

17:23.7
it and but so right now we’re writing
the second part of that but hopefully
17:23.7

17:26.5
the royalties from that will he’ll be
able to fly up here to the States and
17:26.5

17:29.4
bring the whole family with him so
that’s the mission I love it that’s
17:29.4

17:32.0
awesome well thanks so much for talking
with us all right tres you have a good
17:32.0

17:34.9
one
folks I don’t know if you know Tom tinny
17:34.9

17:41.7
personally but he is such an interesting
individual he is an author he is a
17:41.7

17:47.9
motorcyclist he writes for motorcycle
magazines he’s just a really interesting
17:47.9

17:52.6
guy and Tom I want to thank you for all
the support that you have given Scaling
17:52.6

17:57.3
UP! h2o
we just recently interviewed this next
17:57.3

18:03.2
person so please welcome a Jay farmer e1
nation you don’t have to walk far to see
18:03.2

18:07.0
a some of the individuals that have been
on the podcast and I just ran into
18:07.0

18:12.7
episode 93 guest Jay farmer how you
doing Jay pretty good trace so what are
18:12.7

18:16.4
some of the things that you are learning
here at the association of Water
18:16.4

18:22.6
Technologies convention basically I’m
looking at the idec’s leads alert the
18:22.6

18:27.8
differences in that be template counts I
think that’s very important I was just
18:27.8

18:33.2
talking to the experts there and asking
them about false positives false
18:33.2

18:37.9
negatives things that we have to be
concerned about and how we’re reporting
18:37.9

18:46.3
our information I want to learn more
about how positive this is to understand
18:46.3

18:50.9
to help me make decisions for hospitals
and things like that what we’re doing
18:50.9

18:56.2
look a lot of legionella work and trying
to protect ourselves and our liability
18:56.2

19:01.6
for our businesses and we are airing
this of course during industrial water
19:01.6

19:07.1
week so what are you doing to celebrate
industrial water week well I’m working
19:07.1

19:11.5
every day and having fun and talking to
more clients and I think that’s the most
19:11.5

19:16.5
important thing having fun all right J
so for industrial water week what is one
19:16.5

19:21.4
tip that every water treaty needs to
know if it was a written it wasn’t done
19:21.4

19:28.4
there you have it folks
J was on episodes 93 and 94
19:28.4

19:36.0
and J I consider you to be one of my
mentors you have helped me tremendously
19:36.0

19:40.9
with understanding more about water
treatment and going to that next level
19:40.9

19:48.2
so folks if you do not have someone in
your life that you can call and ask
19:48.2

19:53.4
questions to to make you continuously
better I promise you you’re not doing
19:53.4

19:59.4
water treatment right I have learned so
much from people in my life that I
19:59.4

20:06.0
consider mentors and I can tell you as a
fact that I would not be the level of
20:06.0

20:09.5
water treater
I am today if it had not been for these
20:09.5

20:16.2
individuals nation you have heard my
next guest when I covered the technical
20:16.2

20:20.5
training in both San Diego and Annapolis
of course I’m speaking about Reed
20:20.5

20:27.0
Hutchinson now Reed interviewed with me
not too long before the Association
20:27.0

20:32.7
convention so in the next couple months
you are going to hear Reed coming on
20:32.7

20:39.3
Scaling UP! h2o and telling you a whole
bunch of information that I know you are
20:39.3

20:44.7
going to enjoy but in the meantime
here’s Reed I am here at the young
20:44.7

20:49.1
professionals happy hour I just bumped
into Reed Hutchinson Reed you and I just
20:49.1

20:52.5
got finished with the interview it’s
gonna air in a couple of months how are
20:52.5

20:56.2
you doing this week I’m having a
fantastic time here at the convention
20:56.2

21:00.7
well I am curious so you’re young you’re
professional you’re on the young
21:00.7

21:04.4
professionals cannot so I’m curious what
are some of the things that you are
21:04.4

21:09.5
finding at this year’s convention well
as as always I’m finding a bunch of new
21:09.5

21:14.0
relationships that I didn’t have before
I came here so I’ve had the chance to be
21:14.0

21:18.0
here with my dad and my brother-in-law
and our technical director Darius and
21:18.0

21:20.6
we’ve had the chance to strike up
relationships with people we’ve seen
21:20.6

21:25.2
from afar but why needs to know and some
people we didn’t know we would strike a
21:25.2

21:30.1
friendship with so we’ve had a great
time making new friends and then as
21:30.1

21:34.6
always the conventions put on a number
of great papers and presentations yeah
21:34.6

21:38.1
we just came from a great legionella
presentation there were four
21:38.1

21:42.2
awesome speakers I know I’m gonna go
back and I’m gonna do some stuff with
21:42.2

21:46.3
that information I’m sure you are as
well yeah we had a bunch of chemical
21:46.3

21:50.6
vendors equipment vendors put out
awesome papers and presentations and
21:50.6

21:54.1
then the exhibit hall was I think the
best of all three years that I’ve been
21:54.1

21:58.2
coming it just keeps getting better it
keeps getting better now the question of
21:58.2

22:02.7
the hour what are you going to do to
celebrate industrial Water Week you know
22:02.7

22:07.6
I am going to take the CWT exam there
you go and let’s do the Scaling UP! of
22:07.6

22:10.7
course of course
every Friday I don’t miss it thanks
22:10.7

22:15.8
buddy nation the next person I’m
speaking with is lathe Charles and you
22:15.8

22:23.2
know lathe Charles from episode 62 he
has also been a fantastic supporter of
22:23.2

22:28.3
Scaling UP! h2o
so here’s lathe just ran into lathe
22:28.3

22:33.3
Charles previous guest of Scaling UP! h2o
lathe what are you doing here at the AWT
22:33.3

22:37.0
convention well i’m here representing
pulse’ feeder in their booth
22:37.0

22:41.0
bunch of new stuff rolling out getting
to meet all the good friends that you
22:41.0

22:44.4
make in the AWT community so what’s some
of the cool stuff that’s rolling out
22:44.4

22:49.0
this year we’re always reinventing kind
of our online platform that we’ve got
22:49.0

22:53.0
we’ve got a a wizard in our booth that
seems to be a little bit of the talk of
22:53.0

22:57.5
the show a cool guy but just a real fast
way of configuring your controller it’s
22:57.5

23:00.2
got some smart checks and balances in
there too so you make sure you’re not
23:00.2

23:04.6
kind of put a bad program into your
controller make sure you’re very cool
23:04.6

23:09.1
now I want to know how are you going to
be celebrating industrial Water Week I’m
23:09.1

23:13.0
kind of mad industrial Water Week last
week was on my birthday and that was
23:13.0

23:15.5
super cool
I was wastewater Wednesday last week but
23:15.5

23:19.5
now it’s not on my birthday anymore you
can blame just moving it around willy
23:19.5

23:24.1
nilly but I think his criteria it’s the
first full week of the month of October
23:24.1

23:28.9
yeah I’m missing out this this year
maybe next year it’ll be back in the
23:28.9

23:35.2
cycle but yeah it’s it’s a great week
you got a you got a theme your week to
23:35.2

23:40.8
go alongside it so hopefully I’ll be
attending a cooling tower tower site
23:40.8

23:45.7
then a boiler site well we’ll see how
well I can schedule that out but I look
23:45.7

23:50.1
forward to hear how your plans
fan out so thanks for talking with us
23:50.1

23:57.2
nation I hope you hear the excitement in
the air what’s going on behind us as we
23:57.2

24:02.6
do the interview this is such an
incredible show to go to I hope you’re
24:02.6

24:07.1
enjoying these interviews but I hope
that these interviews are making you see
24:07.1

24:14.0
why you need to be here next year now
next year the AWT is going to be in
24:14.0

24:20.7
Louisville Kentucky September 30th
through October 3rd so I hope to see you
24:20.7

24:26.6
there I of course will be there doing my
usual recordings and I hope to see you
24:26.6

24:32.5
there but in the meantime here are a few
more other interviews that I did that I
24:32.5

24:37.8
hope you enjoy I’m here with Adam dumb
ler at the H to tronics booth out of how
24:37.8

24:41.9
are you doing good how are you Tracy I’m
doing wonderful thank you for asking I
24:41.9

24:48.2
want to know what the heck is this h2
tronic stuff so es are our new updates
24:48.2

24:52.8
that is about Flex reporting we have an
online reporting application customers
24:52.8

24:56.7
can log into a website the website is
customized private labeled and unique
24:56.7

24:59.8
for their company they can enter
compliance documentation they can
24:59.8

25:03.5
analyze data they save they can have
data controllers folded into there they
25:03.5

25:07.6
can upload attachments pictures generate
account reviews and look at report
25:07.6

25:11.4
scheduling all of these applications are
done in an online format that is like a
25:11.4

25:15.3
tool box for the water treater any
customer can get to it anytime by
25:15.3

25:19.1
logging into it from an internet-enabled
device we have a companion app aliquot
25:19.1

25:22.3
that works with it as well and all of
that is designed to help take the
25:22.3

25:26.5
consulting aspects of water treatment
and make it more time efficient and give
25:26.5

25:30.0
our customers sales tools they can use
to grow their business well very cool
25:30.0

25:34.1
now I want to know what are you doing to
celebrate industrial water week we are
25:34.1

25:37.7
getting a cake and we’re having a
special celebration at the end of the
25:37.7

25:40.8
week where we’re gonna have Frank jump
out of it and surprise the team all
25:40.8

25:44.0
right well you might want to make sure
some insurance is paid up on that one
25:44.0

25:46.4
but that sounds delightful
thanks for having me I appreciate it
25:46.4

25:51.8
race nation I’m here with Chris golden
of Taylor technologies Chris what are
25:51.8

25:57.0
you showing the fine people of AWT this
year Oh what thing we have right now is
25:57.0

26:01.2
would you like to do away with your pH
meter the pH meter or lots main
26:01.2

26:04.6
got a calibrated each week you’re
supposed to calibrate even each week and
26:04.6

26:07.9
you got to replace the tips like every
six Monts probes every six months to a
26:07.9

26:10.8
year well what if you could do that with
your color imager what if you could test
26:10.8

26:14.5
pH with your color imager we already
have had that test between six and a
26:14.5

26:18.1
half and eight and a half so what I do
is I challenged our R&D people give me a
26:18.1

26:22.2
higher range because we got boilers we
got cooling towers so what they did was
26:22.2

26:26.7
they developed pH tests all the way up
to eleven and a half so you got sick and
26:26.7

26:29.3
a half to eight and a half then you got
seven and a half to nine and a half and
26:29.3

26:32.2
then nine and a half to eleven and a
half you could do with the color imager
26:32.2

26:36.4
isn’t that awesome you don’t have to
worry about probes and calibrations it’s
26:36.4

26:39.2
all there for you that is cool it seems
like you’re challenging your are deep
26:39.2

26:42.8
Department quite a bit last time we
spoke you said you came up with a
26:42.8

26:46.4
challenge for them I think we’re talking
about phosphate testing Oh the phosphate
26:46.4

26:49.8
or phospho name I was phosphonate yes
just corrected me yeah there you go oh
26:49.8

26:54.1
gosh there’s some brilliant guys we got
seven degreed chemists in our Rd and
26:54.1

26:57.8
they are sharp people in fact Jason
Bilski is with me right now and in the
26:57.8

27:02.1
at the show in the in the booth so great
people they like to be challenged we’ve
27:02.1

27:06.4
got a whole system of products and
projects that we’ve got keeping those
27:06.4

27:10.0
guys busy you got to keep subbing
chemists busy so it’s been a blast yeah
27:10.0

27:12.5
we challenged them a lot
awesome what are some of the questions
27:12.5

27:17.1
that people are coming up to you and
asking you this year questions how can I
27:17.1

27:20.1
do things faster okay how can I do
things fast all about efficiency
27:20.1

27:24.5
it’s about efficiencies right yes and
what we do is again a challenge to our
27:24.5

27:29.8
R&D people was there were a lot of
colorimetric methods that we went and
27:29.8

27:32.8
took a look at and it really doesn’t
need three minutes it can be done in two
27:32.8

27:38.1
minutes and it can be done accurately
and repeatedly so any of the methods
27:38.1

27:40.5
that you take a look at that are in our
colorimetry
27:40.5

27:44.3
you see it some of them are shorter
times it’s just like the SteriPEN right
27:44.3

27:48.5
that was my R&D guys as they come up the
SteriPEN cut the digestion from ten
27:48.5

27:52.2
minutes down to three minutes so that
says that seven minutes you can go to
27:52.2

27:56.9
add cells it does use that for sales
time there you go I got to ask what are
27:56.9

28:01.0
you doing to celebrate industrial Water
Week what am i doing oh my gosh I’m
28:01.0

28:07.1
thinking about a tattoo what is this
going to involve I don’t know where I’m
28:07.1

28:10.2
gonna put it but I’m gonna ask James
McDonald who’s the Guru of
28:10.2

28:13.6
industrial water week I do not have any
plans I was thinking about baking a cake
28:13.6

28:17.4
but I’m not a good Baker nobody’s gonna
want to eat that all right well I’m not
28:17.4

28:20.4
sure if we’re gonna want to see that
tattoo or not but I am intrigued thanks
28:20.4

28:25.0
so much for chatting we’ve got it thanks
nation I just ran into a longtime friend
28:25.0

28:29.7
and Scaling UP! h2o listener Scott Olsen
how are you Scott I’m fine but then
28:29.7

28:36.1
again tres lies know you’ve been a great
friend of mine for a very long time so I
28:36.1

28:40.4
am curious what are some of the things
that you’re coming away with at this
28:40.4

28:44.7
year’s Association of Water Technologies
convention the development of new
28:44.7

28:50.9
Legionella testing technology methods
test kits that can be done by personal
28:50.9

28:57.4
or by individual companies testing
facilities is greatly increasing the
28:57.4

29:02.7
ability of for water management plan
generation has been a is being developed
29:02.7

29:08.0
by several companies there’s quite a few
Legionella testing facilities that are
29:08.0

29:13.6
here this year that are offering their
services and actually quite enlightening
29:13.6

29:17.7
in many cases yeah there are quite a few
Legionella service companies here more
29:17.7

29:21.9
than ever though that we’ve had and and
you’re right they all have some
29:21.9

29:25.8
interesting information to share so the
question everybody wants to know is how
29:25.8

29:31.1
are you going to be celebrating
industrial water week by enjoying the
29:31.1

29:35.9
information that I’m gathering here
which is the best place in the world to
29:35.9

29:40.4
get water treatment information because
everybody that’s anybody is here
29:40.4

29:44.3
including the big guys so there you go
and I hear Scaling UP! is a pretty good
29:44.3

29:47.8
way to get some water treatment
information absolutely we have become
29:47.8

29:52.6
converts I claim to be a part of the
Scaling UP! nation absolutely you are
29:52.6

29:56.8
well Scott thanks so much for chatting
with us you betcha have any time I’m
29:56.8

30:00.9
here with Matt black of eating 10
industries and you guys are of course
30:00.9

30:05.8
exhibiting here at the AWT 2019
conference and I was speaking with you
30:05.8

30:09.8
guys yesterday and you guys took
something simple that has plagued so
30:09.8

30:14.4
many of us water traders and put it into
action tell us about what you have in
30:14.4

30:18.9
your hand okay so a common occurrence
with check valves is that eventually
30:18.9

30:23.1
they will clog so if you have a fixed
will
30:23.1

30:27.3
Injection quill with an internal check
valve the only way to clear that out is
30:27.3

30:32.1
to shut your whole process down so we
developed an idea where you have a
30:32.1

30:36.8
injection quill with no internal check
valve followed by a ball valve followed
30:36.8

30:42.0
by our external stainless-steel check
valve this allows you to close the valve
30:42.0

30:46.2
off and remove the check valve to clear
it out without shutting your process
30:46.2

30:50.7
down at all a simple solution I know
many people have probably gone to the
30:50.7

30:55.0
hardware store and and made something
like this themselves you’re the first
30:55.0

30:57.9
people that I’ve ever seen that I’ve
ever put it into practice so thank you
30:57.9

31:02.7
for making an industrial water traders
life just a little bit more easy that’s
31:02.7

31:08.4
what we aim to do we look to solve
people’s problems and it helps us
31:08.4

31:13.5
develop new products as well so it’s
mutually beneficial awesome and now I’m
31:13.5

31:18.0
curious how are you going to be
celebrating industrial water week so
31:18.0

31:22.7
hopefully selling a lot more product
that is a common theme here at the show
31:22.7

31:28.5
thanks guys appreciate you talking with
us I’m here with Scaling UP! h2o listener
31:28.5

31:32.7
and AWT
2019 conference attendee max mold and
31:32.7

31:36.2
Max I’m curious what are you getting
from this year’s convention this is my
31:36.2

31:39.6
first year attending and it’s actually
been great to meet all the equipment
31:39.6

31:43.6
providers and some of the laboratories
I’ve got actually a wealth of
31:43.6

31:47.8
information and quite a bit of new
suppliers that I’m gonna give a call and
31:47.8

31:51.2
