Happy Industrial Water Week Scaling UP!
nation Trace Blackmore here your host
0:14.3
0:20.5
for Scaling UP! h2o and folks we are
celebrating cooling Wednesday that’s
0:20.5
0:26.5
right an entire week of celebrating
industrial water treatment an entire
0:26.5
0:34.3
week just for us to recognize what an
incredible industry that we are in and
0:34.3
0:40.6
we are celebrating it on Wednesday with
Cooley now yesterday was boiler so we
0:40.6
0:47.3
were talking about heating things up
that meant putting BTUs into the system
0:47.3
0:55.1
well now we’re taking BTUs out and
that’s how we cool folks I hope that you
0:55.1
1:01.0
are doing something to celebrate this
amazing holiday and what I am doing this
1:01.0
1:06.5
week is I am bringing the association of
water technologies conference to you so
1:06.5
1:12.6
if you are not able to be there don’t
worry we are bringing it to you all this
1:12.6
1:19.3
week and we are going to start out our
interview series with Janet stout now
1:19.3
1:25.3
you know Janet’s now from episode 9 and
Janet told us everything that we needed
1:25.3
1:32.5
to start to learn about Legionella and
Janet has really pioneered everything
1:32.5
1:36.8
that we know about
Legionella she lovingly calls herself
1:36.8
1:42.4
Allegiant ologist she made that term up
but she says that’s what she does she is
1:42.4
1:49.5
a PhD and all she does is study
Legionella I consider her a friend and I
1:49.5
1:54.0
have learned a tremendous amount from
her so ladies and gentlemen if you will
1:54.0
1:59.1
here is Janet’s towel walking around the
AWT conference hall and I found
1:59.1
2:04.9
Legionella expert Janet stout how are
you Janet I’m fantastic I love a WT and
2:04.9
2:08.6
I especially love talking to you trace
well likewise Janet and Jenna what’s
2:08.6
2:12.4
going on here you’re you’re selling BLT
sandwiches you’re gonna stops outfit
2:12.4
2:15.3
what’s going
I know aren’t I cute the get a little
2:15.3
2:21.2
absolutely so the what we’re talking
about is VLT best Legionella test so
2:21.2
2:24.7
it’s not the test it’s everything around
the test just like a good BLT sandwich
2:24.7
2:30.2
so we have expertise we have
multidisciplinary team and so because
2:30.2
2:35.6
we’re talking about best Legionella test
BLT we’re serving Rio BLTs with a little
2:35.6
2:40.3
Corona chasers so I hope you’re hungry
Trace what has been the biggest question
2:40.3
2:44.9
you’ve received at the conference this
year around Legionella well I think one
2:44.9
2:48.9
of the things actually that I’m talking
to people about because most of the AWT
2:48.9
2:52.3
people are pretty knowledgeable about
Legionella said this morning I gave a
2:52.3
2:57.0
talk about the other waterborne
pathogens talked about in the CMS memo
2:57.0
3:01.0
the Center for Medicare and Medicaid
Services talks about organisms that
3:01.0
3:03.9
you’re not familiar with like
stenotrophomonas and that’s neat
3:03.9
3:08.7
effector Pseudomonas and really a bad
actor non-tuberculous mycobacteria so I
3:08.7
3:13.7
gave a talk about that I could send you
a link to the talk absolutely and we
3:13.7
3:18.0
actually spoke a little bit on that when
we interviewed a few weeks ago which is
3:18.0
3:21.5
coming up in the next month or so
oh I can’t wait and your audience will
3:21.5
3:25.0
love it cuz you are just so terrific
your show is just great well I
3:25.0
3:28.1
appreciate that always good talking with
you have a great show thanks so much
3:28.1
3:34.9
trace nation a janet has come back and
recorded another episode so over the
3:34.9
3:41.5
next few months you will hear from Janet
again now janet is telling us about some
3:41.5
3:46.4
things that are changing so I know that
you are going to want to listen to that
3:46.4
3:53.0
episode while we’re on the topic of
Legionella here are a few interviews
3:53.0
3:58.8
that I did with other people in that
industry nation I’m here a Christian
3:58.8
4:05.7
Majesco of idec’s and what are you
showing off at this year’s AWT
4:05.7
4:10.1
conference so it’s the next generation
poster test before they do not know my
4:10.1
4:14.1
face so this is a little different than
your traditional spread plate culture
4:14.1
4:17.9
which you’re trying to identify some
colonies on a plate this is a liquid
4:17.9
4:21.9
culture time which is kind of neat
because Legionella pneumophila
4:21.9
4:25.7
rosin water naturally and so what we do
is offer a way for
4:25.7
4:32.4
to grow it up that is very simple to use
very consistent and has a great has
4:32.4
4:38.7
great accuracy so a question that comes
to my mind is what do you have to say
4:38.7
4:43.6
about that so we I think are now our
fifth peer-reviewed publication so what
4:43.6
4:48.0
we’ve done is we’ve had outside
laboratories taking regular old samples
4:48.0
4:51.5
part of their daily business nine
different laboratories in different
4:51.5
4:55.7
countries and they’ve done side by sides
so they spit samples and they compared
4:55.7
5:03.5
with culture tasks to CDC’s potable or
non-potable to the ISO method for
5:03.5
5:07.5
potable water and they’ve said they’ve
come back with results what they found
5:07.5
5:17.2
every single time is than those
traditional so what that means is
5:17.2
5:23.4
sometimes it’s more telling that means
that it’s a new technology a new way of
5:23.4
5:30.6
thinking that you know in a muffler
that’s being missed by this traditional
5:30.6
5:37.6
method just something that is in fact
the water treaters concern sounds very
5:37.6
5:40.5
interesting I don’t think we’re gonna
have time to talk about it today but I’d
5:40.5
5:44.5
love to invite you back on Scaling UP!
h2o so we can really dive into this
5:44.5
5:50.3
topic we love to there’s nothing we like
better conversations people who use our
5:50.3
5:54.5
products and we work with laboratories
that use our products and so I don’t
5:54.5
5:57.3
have the conversation we’d like the
questions they always make our
5:57.3
6:01.4
explanations clearer and our products
are awesome and I have to ask how are
6:01.4
6:06.6
you celebrating industrial water which a
great question we’re gonna be talking
6:06.6
6:11.3
about it fair enough
thanks so much I’m at the sandy pure
6:11.3
6:16.6
booth with Alberto Cote mossy and we are
going to talk about all things sandy
6:16.6
6:19.9
pier tell us a little bit about that
absolutely so we’re throw some Italiano
6:19.9
6:24.2
in here we’ll throw some my nighttime is
air italiano so what we do is we do
6:24.2
6:28.5
supplemental is infection that’s what we
deal with and we’re representing here
6:28.5
6:32.5
the AWT conference are our
monochloramine generators
6:32.5
6:37.0
for building water application so for
supplemental disinfection we have a
6:37.0
6:40.5
cooling tower units specifically
designed for a cooling tower we have a
6:40.5
6:45.5
monitoring panel which is in compliance
with the 1061 directive for VA hospitals
6:45.5
6:49.2
and we have also another unit for
specifically designed for Coldwater
6:49.2
6:54.8
application so that’s what we’re doing
we are very big and you know we believe
6:54.8
7:00.0
we on science so everything we do is
validated through science and we always
7:00.0
7:05.4
publish our data we did a commercial
corner today talking about all the
7:05.4
7:09.7
regulatory issues and stuff that are
going on with supplemental disinfection
7:09.7
7:14.3
which is becoming like much bigger and
bigger because down the road you’re
7:14.3
7:20.6
dealing with Publix Public Health Public
Safety and I’m gonna talk on the panel
7:20.6
7:24.1
tomorrow about supplemental disinfection
so I’m very happy we got this
7:24.1
7:29.4
opportunity to share our message with
AWT and especially we were at the NSF
7:29.4
7:35.1
conference until yesterday which it’s
kind of weird that put them the same
7:35.1
7:39.2
days but it was good to be there was
good to see what the regulator’s had to
7:39.2
7:43.4
say and kind of share that message with
the AWT people here in Palm Springs um
7:43.4
7:47.6
we’re happy to be here and guess what
we’re gonna be the young professional
7:47.6
7:51.0
happy hour tonight so there you guys
come there and meet us there we’ll get
7:51.0
7:55.5
your drink well thank you very much and
thanks for educating us about insanity
7:55.5
8:00.7
I’m sorry thanks so much
Legionella has really started to become
8:00.7
8:07.6
another leg of the industrial water
treaters capabilities and issues and all
8:07.6
8:12.0
the things that we have to do on a
regular basis so if you do not know
8:12.0
8:15.7
about Legionella your customers probably
don’t either
8:15.7
8:19.7
and the issue with that is the
assumption is that you are doing
8:19.7
8:25.1
something about it
so at the very least I urge you to learn
8:25.1
8:32.3
at least who is responsible for doing
what and helping the education happen
8:32.3
8:38.3
with your customer when nobody is having
dialogue when it comes to Legionella
8:38.3
8:44.5
nobody is getting anywhere so please
help have that conversation with each
8:44.5
8:48.4
one of your clients
because that is a tide that will raise
8:48.4
8:54.8
all industrial water treatment boats the
next person I ran into was Logan of
8:54.8
9:01.0
Odyssey and Logan has been a great
supporter of the show Odyssey is a
9:01.0
9:05.5
French company and Logan stopped by the
office a couple times and I remember
9:05.5
9:13.5
when I first started Scaling UP! h2o I
think it was around May of 2017 and he
9:13.5
9:18.3
told me that he just loved the idea that
we were doing a podcast and he listened
9:18.3
9:24.6
every time we had a new episode drop and
he told me he loved my accent nation I’m
9:24.6
9:30.2
here with odyssey’s Logan man Aaron Chee
Logan what are you doing here at the AWT
9:30.2
9:33.6
conference tell us about what you’re
talking to customers about so we are
9:33.6
9:40.0
talking about the femi yemi ins products
so the idea is what mainly now is to do
9:40.0
9:44.0
social you know we like to meet people
we like to see how the industry is
9:44.0
9:48.4
growing is moving so it’s very
interesting to see these kind of things
9:48.4
9:52.0
well awesome and I can’t notice that
your accents a little bit different
9:52.0
10:00.9
texas is it its eastern texas so i’m
curious what are you going to be doing
10:00.9
10:06.2
to celebrate industrial water treatment
we I just we listen to the Scaling UP!
10:06.2
10:10.6
podcasts every day which is way better
well there you go I couldn’t ask for a
10:10.6
10:14.1
better answer thanks so much for
chatting with us thank you Jason nation
10:14.1
10:19.1
back in April of this year we covered an
episode it was episode 81 it was about
10:19.1
10:25.4
pure water for the world and the person
that we interviewed her name was Carolyn
10:25.4
10:30.3
moob and she told us all of the great
things that pure water for the world was
10:30.3
10:37.0
doing and pure water for the world is
the charity that AWT backs to help bring
10:37.0
10:44.1
clean drinking water to some of the most
impoverished areas in the world so
10:44.1
10:49.7
ladies and gentlemen here is right OMPs
in’ speaking on pure water for the world
10:49.7
10:55.1
i’m here with right OMPs in’ and right
here with pure water for the world but
10:55.1
10:58.3
you’re a water treat or so help explain
that to us
10:58.3
11:01.6
thanks Tracy yes
I did spend a wonderful four years in
11:01.6
11:06.8
the industry as an owner and operator
and I did leave the water industry year
11:06.8
11:10.8
ago it’s still near and dear to my heart
however I am now a volunteer with pure
11:10.8
11:13.6
water for the world that is not my
full-time employment I do have a
11:13.6
11:17.6
full-time job doing other things but I
was introduced to pure water for the
11:17.6
11:22.7
world as an AW team member actually
joined pure water for the world on a
11:22.7
11:27.0
trip one of their mission volunteer
trips down to Honduras which is an
11:27.0
11:30.9
incredible opportunity less than sixty
people a year in the world get to do
11:30.9
11:34.3
that trip with pure water and it just
happens to be that the Association Water
11:34.3
11:39.1
Technologies has that very dedicated
relationship with pure water to do those
11:39.1
11:41.5
trips so I invite anyone that is even
thinking about volunteering
11:41.5
11:45.9
internationally this is a wonderful
best-kept secret in the world of
11:45.9
11:51.8
volunteer tourism so a question I’m sure
several people have stopped by and asked
11:51.8
11:57.1
you is ka WT is an organization that
other people join and now this
11:57.1
12:01.4
organization is supporting another
organization called pure water for the
12:01.4
12:05.8
world help us understand that it’s a
great question and yes a lot of folks
12:05.8
12:09.2
trying to make that bridge how do
industrial water treaters make that that
12:09.2
12:14.4
jump over to a water charity that’s
based outside of the world and my answer
12:14.4
12:20.5
that is this is a an organization a lean
organization that sort of got that that
12:20.5
12:24.4
individualism that a lot of water
treaters have of go getting and
12:24.4
12:29.2
self-starting get stuff done they do
things on a very very lean budget and
12:29.2
12:33.3
when the history of us from what I
understand the Association Water
12:33.3
12:39.2
Technologies was looking for a dedicated
charity that was very effective and the
12:39.2
12:42.6
fact matter is this organization works
in the two poorest countries in the
12:42.6
12:47.9
Western Hemisphere of Haiti and Honduras
and what a dollar does in those two
12:47.9
12:54.0
countries for aid and for helping folks
far exceeds what a $1 does here in the
12:54.0
12:59.7
United States and many organizations so
but making that jump from industrial
12:59.7
13:05.0
water treatment to just pure charity
it’s it’s hard to understand so again I
13:05.0
13:08.5
would invite somebody to come on down on
one of the trips to to get some more
13:08.5
13:09.8
information on that
now you
13:09.8
13:13.8
actually done that so what happens when
you’re on one of these trips and you
13:13.8
13:16.6
show me some photos right now they look
fantastic
13:16.6
13:20.6
what was your experience yes right here
in the booth for folks that do stuff I
13:20.6
13:23.6
like to point out there are a half a
dozen aw team members that are in the
13:23.6
13:29.2
back of a truck crossing a river in
Honduras and it’s a wonderful photo and
13:29.2
13:34.2
you see all smiles on the folks that say
day number four or six aww members upon
13:34.2
13:39.6
landing in the country on day two they
are installing BioSand water filters in
13:39.6
13:44.8
people’s homes these homes do not have
running water folks are still using a
13:44.8
13:50.7
pail to go to a water source be it a
river or perhaps a hose that’s coming
13:50.7
13:54.9
from some water source way up the hill
that’s running downstream they interrupt
13:54.9
13:58.2
it it’s not it’s even a tea coupling
they just interrupt it put some water
13:58.2
14:01.1
into a bucket and then plug it back in
so it can go to other folks down
14:01.1
14:05.9
downstream all the while when they put
that hose down the pigs are running by
14:05.9
14:09.9
the chickens are running by one of the
questions I get asked a lot and the aw
14:09.9
14:12.7
team membership is very generous they
said hey how many filters do you need
14:12.7
14:16.0
I’ll send down filters I’ll send down
equipment and it’s the really the
14:16.0
14:20.7
starting point to explain to folks wow
we don’t have a water line under
14:20.7
14:24.9
pressure running into these homes people
are still using a bucket and they’re
14:24.9
14:29.5
using surface water so what they the ATM
team members get to see and a-one and
14:29.5
14:34.7
two and two and a half if you weld a
three is how to actually install these
14:34.7
14:38.8
BioSand water filters in people’s homes
it’s very hands-on
14:38.8
14:43.5
well it sounds incredible I know we had
Carolyn on a couple of months ago was
14:43.5
14:47.1
about this time last year I think it was
Carolyn the director the executive
14:47.1
14:50.6
director for pure water right and I
think she stepped down recently didn’t
14:50.6
14:55.0
she she retired after 17 years and there
is still a transition on that but she
14:55.0
14:59.1
announced her retirement in January and
there’s a new executive director search
14:59.1
15:02.9
underway an incredible woman that that
took the reins awesome well we
15:02.9
15:07.6
appreciate you sharing what you do here
for pure water for the world I know the
15:07.6
15:11.7
nation wants to learn more if they do
want to seek that out where do they go
15:11.7
15:16.8
well you can go to pure water for the
world org which is the website that they
15:16.8
15:20.5
maintain and one of the initiatives that
myself is an AW team member and
15:20.5
15:22.6
certainly a couple other folks that have
come by the booth
15:22.6
15:26.1
and I’ve got their cards we are trying
to increase the visibility of this
15:26.1
15:30.4
organization and make it more relevant
to AWT members
15:30.4
15:36.9
water is what brings us all together and
what this charity does is provide the
15:36.9
15:43.4
most basic needs for folks we’re talking
about clean water to drink and basic
15:43.4
15:48.4
sanitation which includes having a
latrine that’s right now in the schools
15:48.4
15:52.7
that we go to kids do not even have a
place to hoopin people so really is
15:52.7
15:55.8
making a difference the dollars the
donations that come in from the silent
15:55.8
16:01.6
auction are really important that the
straight donations that come in are well
16:01.6
16:05.8
well used well thanks so much for
helping us understand a little bit more
16:05.8
16:11.7
about pure water for the world thanks
Jase Rai and I were speaking after we
16:11.7
16:19.2
had that brief interview and he really
wants to get Scaling UP! h2o on site so I
16:19.2
16:26.6
can capture everything that they are
doing my schedule is just jam-packed so
16:26.6
16:29.6
I hope I can get that to happen but if
we can’t
16:29.6
16:36.6
why is going to record an episode there
and we are going to let you know all of
16:36.6
16:41.7
the cool things that they are doing with
other Association of Water Technologies
16:41.7
16:49.0
members now the next person I ran into
was Jim Luca niche and I remember the
16:49.0
16:56.0
first time I saw Jim Luca niche present
I didn’t live in Atlanta at the time so
16:56.0
17:01.2
I flew down here for the technical
training we didn’t have multiple courses
17:01.2
17:07.2
as we do today back then it was just one
and Jim was one of the trainers as he is
17:07.2
17:13.8
today folks when I saw Jim present
that’s when I knew I wanted to be part
17:13.8
17:18.7
of the technical training committee he
was just incredible in how he could
17:18.7
17:25.1
share the passion that he had about this
industry with other people so ladies and
17:25.1
17:33.2
gentlemen here’s Jim Lucca niche nation
I just found my friend AWT royalty Jim
17:33.2
17:37.8
Luke and it’s
how are you my friend I am fantastic how
17:37.8
17:41.6
about you I am always doing well when I
can spend some time with you and of
17:41.6
17:46.0
course you and I are spending time
together at the AWT 2019 conference Jim
17:46.0
17:50.7
I’m curious what are some of the things
that you’re finding at this show that
17:50.7
17:53.8
are giving you some ideas for some
things that you can do when you get back
17:53.8
18:00.6
home okay so we have a need in our
company in one of our market segments
18:00.6
18:06.1
for most of you are familiar with water
cycle on the cooling water side so I
18:06.1
18:12.2
needed to discuss this French Creek the
application on their other downhill SAP
18:12.2
18:18.2
for energy services side flowing gas and
I needed to make sure it would do the
18:18.2
18:23.0
things we needed it to do before we
implement that as you know what to
18:23.0
18:28.7
report our analytical results and
graphically display and solubilities of
18:28.7
18:32.9
the different deposit forming species so
we I had a great discussion with Rob
18:32.9
18:37.8
Ferguson’s the famous Rob Ferguson who
was a guest on the show yes and I’m sure
18:37.8
18:45.4
that went over by two hours because he
was longer Donora miix people we had
18:45.4
18:49.5
some interesting discussions about it
some things they have in development
18:49.5
18:54.9
that they haven’t released to market
they have some IP that they’ve got of
18:54.9
19:00.5
our patents that they have to file
before they do that’s going to be very
19:00.5
19:06.7
interesting for not only us but for the
a to be team membership as well so yeah
19:06.7
19:10.7
what a great place to come to because
pretty much everybody that sells to our
19:10.7
19:14.3
industry is here and we can have some of
the great conversations about some of
19:14.3
19:17.4
the issues that we’re having and some of
the problems that we’re trying to solve
19:17.4
19:21.6
that we need their systems with so yeah
and if you look like right now
19:21.6
19:28.5
secondary disinfection for potable water
in hospitals and other facilities but
19:28.5
19:32.7
primarily for the healthcare industry a
lot of the aw team membership is getting
19:32.7
19:38.3
into that secondary disinfection
application and the four main devices
19:38.3
19:42.8
devices present here is getting a lot of
buzz you see people a lot of people
19:42.8
19:45.6
gathering there and I talked to some of
them
19:45.6
19:49.2
and a lot of these folks are
implementing the Santa pure type
19:49.2
19:54.0
monochloramine units I highly recommend
them there’s some other chlorine dioxide
19:54.0
19:58.3
generators around that I hadn’t seen
before or maybe didn’t notice before so
19:58.3
20:03.0
let’s talk to them about their
generating devices all in all a great
20:03.0
20:07.5
show yeah you’re here well there you go
that’s all you need everybody wants to
20:07.5
20:12.8
know how are you going to be celebrating
industrial Water Week you know I might
20:12.8
20:21.3
take a trip to Antarctica and sample the
quality of the ice cores from 200,000
20:21.3
20:26.0
years ago something like that you know
you know I feel with anybody else I
20:26.0
20:29.5
would think that was BS but I know you –
well you probably already have the trip
20:29.5
20:34.7
book oh yeah definitely and you know I’m
gonna make sure I bring my swimwear
20:34.7
20:38.4
because you know climate change and
everything it’s gonna be a wonderful
20:38.4
20:43.1
beach beach weekend it would definitely
be cooler than here it’s 112 degrees
20:43.1
20:46.8
right now folks Jim thanks so much for
stopping by and talking with us grace
20:46.8
20:53.9
now Jim came on on episode 12 he was one
of my earlier guests and of course he’s
20:53.9
20:58.8
been on I believe just about every
episode that I’ve covered at a technical
20:58.8
21:03.6
training event I think it’s about time
we get Jim back on so I’ll have to make
21:03.6
21:08.7
sure we schedule that nation if you
remember episode 15 that was with Jack
21:08.7
21:15.5
Walker and he was the recipient of the
ray balm water treater of the Year award
21:15.5
21:24.1
several years ago well his daughter ran
into me and here is Bonnie Walker ladies
21:24.1
21:28.6
and gentlemen of the Scaling UP! nation I
just ran into Bonnie Walker Bonnie this
21:28.6
21:34.5
is your last year on the AWT board
what’s going on there WT a lot of great
21:34.5
21:38.5
things I’m really excited about not only
working with the young professionals but
21:38.5
21:43.3
also with charity we have a wonderful
charity and I think that it’s going to
21:43.3
21:46.3
go a lot of places we had a great silent
auction it was very successful
21:46.3
21:52.4
so my new passion now is getting the
word out for the for the charity getting
21:52.4
21:56.1
fresh water out to Honduras and Haiti
areas and people that
21:56.1
22:01.3
the story they shared this morning with
me was right now the money that we’re
22:01.3
22:06.1
raising is to help a community of 45
with a school and the children are
22:06.1
22:10.8
currently drinking water out of puddles
and that’s their livelihood so if we can
22:10.8
22:15.5
bring fresh water just to them 45 people
and the schools then that’s really I
22:15.5
22:19.3
think we’re effective so water treatment
not only for industrial but for people
22:19.3
22:23.3
too and that’s what ADB to I think is
really can help yeah living here we’re
22:23.3
22:27.3
so far removed from that and start to
even imagine it so for you to bring
22:27.3
22:30.9
awareness to that and we’re water
treaters don’t have a job without water
22:30.9
22:36.3
try3 right so so why not do something to
help yeah yes so supporting my young
22:36.3
22:39.5
professional so everybody listening out
there that you’re not sure what you want
22:39.5
22:42.5
to do with your life definitely water
treatments are great that you can go
22:42.5
22:47.0
into so many things from marketing to
actually the water treatment engineering
22:47.0
22:50.7
chemistry there’s so many different
aspects of the water treatment world so
22:50.7
22:54.1
I definitely would look into that if
you’re a young professional looking for
22:54.1
22:59.3
a home because it’s a career not a job
that’s well said now the question I have
22:59.3
23:02.8
for you is how are you celebrating
industrial water week well how I’m
23:02.8
23:06.5
celebrating it again I’m think I’m going
to start focusing on the charity again
23:06.5
23:11.5
your water for the world too because
that’s what a WT is helping with right
23:11.5
23:15.7
now so I think on give like give
Tuesdays and stuff I think maybe one day
23:15.7
23:18.6
during industrial week we can really
concentrate on the people that you don’t
23:18.6
23:22.2
have running water and flowing water and
we do filtration every day for our
23:22.2
23:25.2
cooling towers why can’t we help
filtration for for people and drinking
23:25.2
23:28.8
water it’s a great message thanks so
much for talking with us thank you
23:28.8
23:33.7
body serves on the board of the
association of water technologies and
23:33.7
23:39.2
like I said in an earlier episode we
could not have a convention or an
23:39.2
23:43.4
association like we do when we talk
about the association of water
23:43.4
23:48.6
technologies without people like Bonnie
who serves so thank you for all the
23:48.6
23:55.2
people that allow the things to happen
to come to be we would not have them if
23:55.2
23:59.6
it weren’t for you and thank you so much
for volunteering now folks if you’re not
23:59.6
24:03.2
a member of the Association of Water
Technologies and you want to learn more
24:03.2
24:08.3
about that go to the association of
water technologies website that’s a WT
24:08.3
24:11.8
dot org
and click on membership for those
24:11.8
24:15.9
listeners out there that do not practice
the same type of water treatment that I
24:15.9
24:22.4
do I promise there is an association out
there that needs your membership now if
24:22.4
24:25.2
you just pay money you’re not going to
get anything out of it and I don’t
24:25.2
24:29.6
recommend that you even go to the
website but if you join and figure out
24:29.6
24:35.8
how you can contribute I promise you it
will change your career path donation I
24:35.8
24:42.0
hope you enjoy my next few interviews as
I walk through the AWT annual convention
24:42.0
24:48.7
and Expo I’m here at the endotherm booth
of the AWT conference and I am with will
24:48.7
24:51.5
Wilson
how are you well doing very good Jason
24:51.5
24:56.0
will tell us a little bit of about
endotherm endotherm is a is probably the
24:56.0
24:59.7
newest thing to come out in water
treatment it’s an additive or
24:59.7
25:03.7
closed-loop systems that actually
improves energy efficiency by improving
25:03.7
25:07.8
the heat transfer characteristics of
water what it does is it’s an organic
25:07.8
25:11.4
surfactant breaks down the surface
tension of the water which allows the
25:11.4
25:16.4
water to make more contact within the
pipework so that your heat energy is
25:16.4
25:21.3
basically touching more of the the coils
the boiler tubes or chiller tubes and
25:21.3
25:25.7
transferring more heat what that does is
it allows the building to hit
25:25.7
25:28.7
temperature set points quicker because
they can get more heat energy into the
25:28.7
25:33.2
room or heat energy out of the room with
each cycle and it allows the equipment
25:33.2
25:36.6
to operate at a more optimal range so
your boiler is running at higher
25:36.6
25:39.9
efficiency because it will call the
return temperature your chiller is
25:39.9
25:43.8
running in a more optimal range because
you have a better delta T well cool
25:43.8
25:48.8
thanks for sharing that with us thanks
Trace have a good day with Brian Qatar
25:48.8
25:53.4
ski of aqua Phoenix who I lovingly call
goose how did you get that nickname
25:53.4
25:57.0
goose I’ve had that nickname since I was
a baby so I’ve been GU since I was like
25:57.0
26:01.1
literally a year old I kind of shook it
a little bit here as I get older and a
26:01.1
26:05.2
little bit more professional not much
but the reality is when I die they’re
26:05.2
26:07.7
gonna have to put goose in my area
though wise nobody’s gonna come to my
26:07.7
26:10.4
funeral
more than once you’ve asked me to start
26:10.4
26:14.3
calling you Brian and stop calling you
goose it didn’t stick and now 10,000
26:14.3
26:17.5
people are hearing me introduce you as a
goose no worries at all I think the few
26:17.5
26:21.2
people that don’t call me goose are my
mom and maybe my dad and that’s a
26:21.2
26:25.7
well awesome I want to know what are you
guys showcasing here at this year’s AWT
26:25.7
26:29.0
conference so really excited eight with
h2 Tronics being our acquisition we made
26:29.0
26:31.4
a couple years ago and one of the big
things we have is our panel builder
26:31.4
26:35.2
program and it allows you within five
minutes to put together a complete quote
26:35.2
26:38.7
for a finished panel that we’ve known
about ten days we can have two in about
26:38.7
26:42.2
ten days but in five minutes you’ll have
actually a diagram of it you’ll have a
26:42.2
26:45.9
line-item quote that shows you list
price and cost and then you also have
26:45.9
26:49.6
all the PDF documents to support what’s
in that panel as well so everything from
26:49.6
26:53.0
the controller down to the probes down
to the valve so have the PDFs to go with
26:53.0
26:56.5
that so anybody’s doing new construction
new bid work that type of thing it’ll
26:56.5
27:01.0
save you up on a time well awesome and
what are you doing to celebrate
27:01.0
27:03.7
industrial Water Week
oh we have a whole bunch of stuff
27:03.7
27:07.3
planned so our marketing teams going
nuts they’re really excited about it one
27:07.3
27:10.7
of the big things we did last year that
we had a lot of success with was we had
27:10.7
27:14.5
our staff go through just our employees
and try to pronounce really complicated
27:14.5
27:18.1
chemical names right like isöthe azulene
and things like that that most of our
27:18.1
27:20.8
folks don’t even know what it is and so
every now and then we plug in one of our
27:20.8
27:23.6
chemists and of course they’re all smart
and geeky and they know exactly how to
27:23.6
27:26.0
pronounce it so we’re definitely gonna
be doing that but we have something
27:26.0
27:29.0
lined up for every day of the week once
it comes around that sounds awesome well
27:29.0
27:31.7
thanks for chatting with us
absolutely man thanks for stopping by
27:31.7
27:36.6
I’m here with Michael Byerly owner of
global water technologies Michael tell
27:36.6
27:41.5
us what you’re doing here at the AWT
2019 convention oh well right now just
27:41.5
27:45.4
getting ready to start the young
professionals a happy hour so yes we’re
27:45.4
27:48.5
gonna get some drink on probably I guess
they’re they’re they’re having some
27:48.5
27:54.0
alcoholic beverages there so what are
some of the things that you are learning
27:54.0
27:58.3
at this convention just brought me in
the horizon on what’s going on with
27:58.3
28:05.1
Legionnaires obviously Legionella
learning from Janet stout and also new
28:05.1
28:10.4
technology during the the expo so the
question is what are you going to do to
28:10.4
28:15.8
celebrate industrial water week oh I
think I’m going to fire up our LinkedIn
28:15.8
28:20.1
page and just take take part in the
festivities I love it I always could see
28:20.1
28:25.9
anybody good seeing you I’m with Landon
Marcus of a Lovibond and you guys are
28:25.9
28:32.3
exhibiting here at the 2019 AWT trade
show in lovely Palm Springs California
28:32.3
28:34.4
you
it’s hot out here it is it’s a little
28:34.4
28:39.7
one so what are some of the things that
you are showing off this year and our
28:39.7
28:45.5
love you bond booth water testing
instruments RMB 642 does PTSA and
28:45.5
28:51.3
foreseen in the same unit along with 120
we have we manufacture our own dip
28:51.3
28:56.0
slides reagents we also have the ability
a private label for customers let’s you
28:56.0
28:59.0
know we have some exciting things here
at the booth and what’s something that
28:59.0
29:06.7
you have learned as a product of being
here at the AWT annual conference I’m
29:06.7
29:13.0
fairly new still I’ve I’ve been in the
industry for almost exactly a year I get
29:13.0
29:16.7
a lot out of it because I get this is
like everybody’s under one roof so I get
29:16.7
29:21.1
to kind of walk around and check out the
new aw team members what they’re about
29:21.1
29:24.7
different water treaters and then also I
get to kind of take a sneak peek on the
29:24.7
29:27.1
competition
29:31.2
29:35.3
yeah and you just came off of the same
panel I interviewed Michelle farmerie
29:35.3
29:40.1
earlier where you were one of the young
professionals where everybody of AWT was
29:40.1
29:44.1
asking questions how do we understand
these young professionals these
29:44.1
29:47.9
millennial generation people what were
some of the things that you gained from
29:47.9
29:52.1
the audience being a panelist you know
you know we were talking about this
29:52.1
29:57.2
after it was over and in our group on
the stage we were actually really it
29:57.2
30:00.9
kind of excited us that there were so
many good questions like people cared
30:00.9
30:04.3
the people there asking the questions
were excited too I felt that they were
30:04.3
30:08.7
excited to be there and the questions
they asked were very direct and you knew
30:08.7
30:11.9
that when they’re asking it like that’s
something baby what they wanted to know
30:11.9
30:17.9
we really got a lot of because it seemed
like they cared a lot about how do you
30:17.9
30:22.1
know keep young professionals in the
industry and bring them in I thought it
30:22.1
30:27.4
was very well attended I enjoyed
moderating it so lots of great thank you
30:27.4
30:30.8
pay for that but thank you for saying
that well thanks for everything that
30:30.8
30:33.3
you’re doing here thanks for being on
that panel
30:33.3
30:37.9
thanks for coming on Scaling UP!p h2o yes
sir thank you I’m here with Rob rentals
30:37.9
30:42.3
you are here at the AWT 2019 conference
what are some of the things that you’re
30:42.3
30:46.7
finding out this is my first time here
so it’s been great to walk around and
30:46.7
30:50.6
meet some faces that I’ve emailed with
and you know talked to over the phone
30:50.6
30:55.8
and you know get to find out a lot about
the industry and I think the main thing
30:55.8
31:01.2
that I was looking for when I came here
was to find better cloud solutions that
31:01.2
31:05.6
we can use to you know get our
controllers online and you know make my
31:05.6
31:11.5
life easier servicing all the accounts
so and were you successful yeah we saw
31:11.5
31:15.7
some interesting ones and talked to the
wall cam guys and the prominent
31:15.7
31:20.2
they were all here they’re all here so
yeah I can’t help but notice you have
31:20.2
31:26.8
the prestigious CWT ribbon on your name
badge when’d you get your CWT why did
31:26.8
31:31.5
you decide to get it and what is it done
for you so I took the test last year and
31:31.5
31:35.0
it’s examination by the way but but I
hear what you’re saying yes I’ve
31:35.0
31:40.1
listened the show I forgot that so I
took you last year and I got busy in the
31:40.1
31:45.2
summer season so I kind of put off doing
the whole application but then once it
31:45.2
31:48.9
was getting towards the date where I
took the test and made sure to get
31:48.9
31:52.9
everything in and you know finally
actually get through the whole process
31:52.9
31:57.6
so I just got it this year actually now
what is it done for you since you now
31:57.6
32:01.8
have those three initials behind your
name so I mean it’s definitely given me
32:01.8
32:07.4
more confidence to go out in the field
and kind of show people that I know what
32:07.4
32:12.7
I’m talking about and you know as a
young person you know it gives you some
32:12.7
32:18.7
some backup and you know you get to say
hey you know I know my stuff and get a
32:18.7
32:23.9
little more respect from people and you
know they listen to you or sometimes
32:23.9
32:29.5
before you know as a young person you’re
given new ideas which you know sometimes
32:29.5
32:33.1
they’re kind of out
but you want to try something different
32:33.1
32:37.6
than people kind of listen to what you
have to say a little more oh there you
32:37.6
32:41.8
go so Rob the Scaling UP! nation wants to
know how are you going to celebrate
32:41.8
32:47.1
industrial water week we’re gonna go
jump in a pool and you know frolicking
32:47.1
32:50.9
the water there you go
connect it with water that’s how you do
32:50.9
